    D&D 3E/3.5 Oriental 3.5?

I'm playing in an oriental adventure game and need to ask you folks a question - has anyone converted it to 3.5 yet? Updated the spells - or at least the spell lists and classes? Any help would be greatly appreciated! While I'm at it - does anyone have an image of a Varana on file - I want to...

Black Blade of the Gate Guardians

My initial thought would be no. The limit that requires it to stick in the ground is an arbitrary one I set. You could just as easily say it triggers after landing - location unimportant.

    :uhoh: A most forlorn bump!

Black Blade of the Gate Guardians

Well - what do you thing of the item below? Is it balanced? Fair price & requirements? Its function obscure at all? Feedback would be great! Black Blade of the Gate Guardians: An obsidian bladed dagger with a skeletal dog’s head on the pommel – its fanged mouth wide enough to fit a finger...

Converting core spells to Arcana Unearthed system

Ah - I wasn't more clear. I do not play in that setting, but I like the spell system & division. I'm looking at altering the core spell system to follow similar guidelines.

Converting core spells to Arcana Unearthed system

Has anyone converted core spells to the Arcana Unearthed spell system: with Simple, Complex and Exotic spells? I really like this system and would like to be able to adapt it. Has anyone heard about such a conversion? Thanks, B:]B

Magic Items that Grant Skills (merged)

I like your DMs rule - and am adopting it myself! If I (as DM) modified a rule in mid-game, I'd make all prior owned items function as they had prior to the rule change - so as not to fudge up a player - but that is the only concession he need make. I also like Scion's items that still grant...

Search and taking 20: the problem

I disagree - their can be traps that can not be found by rolls, only through player intuition or putting together clues found earlier. For example: I had a room with a large pool (3'6" deep), with a small stone island in the center and a stone walkway on either side of the pool. The pool was...

Search and taking 20: the problem

I loath players who insist on take 20 search for every square in a dungeon. Searching likely areas, using reason to decide which areas deserve the attention - great! But in cases of taking 20 for every door and hallway: 1/2 or no exp for the traps located via that take 20. If skipped, no exp...

    Guidelines for Creating New Races?

Using my system: Stats: +2-2 = 0 Amphibious = 1 Swim 30’ = ½ Moist skin – no limit given, so no modifier Leap = ¼ Perform = ½ Language = ¼ 2-1/2 points, technically between human and ½ orc, it lacks the flexibility of human, so should see little use (it lacks the niche the ½ orc has as the...

Work your braincell mojo for me

My dislike for the current schools is in the arbitrary nature of the spell - how it accomplishes its goal, as well as how it reaches it. For instance: Sending and Demand. One is Evo, the other Ench. A specialist could know Demand (Sending and more), but be unable to cast Sending. Armor is...

    Guidelines for Creating New Races?

All systems suffer from a single problem, the weight the designer assigns for the given 'advantages'. Total agreement on a # value for darkvision, let alone the total 'fair' value each race can have will happen 1 week prior to world peace. In addition, you can not have true balance since the...

Work your braincell mojo for me

I am not pleased with the school division of spells – it produces some results I find irrational. Whatever the reason, though, I am looking for replacement schools. I do not mind a spell showing up on more then one list (some spells really do belong to more then one school). Below is a rough...

    Produce Flame and Natural Attacks

For my 2 cents - since it refers to its use in melee as a touch attack, I'd go that route (treat it as a touch attack) - and so may be used with unarmed & natural attacks

    But why...

I'm leaning towards #2 & 3, with the addition that the initial draw of the familiar occurs at puberty. Once a familiar dies, the owner undergoes another year of puberty - mentally, not physically, as the owner must re-develop the portion of himself he just lost. This typically results in a...

    But why...

For my new campaign, I am trying to nail down the rules of the universe, methods to the madness, and all other sorts of silliness. Here is a question for you - Why do wizards and sorcerer's have familiars? I know the obvious answer - because they do! Some others I've considered are listed...

    D&D 3E/3.5 BoVD 3.5e: Hellbound!

Nifft (The dreaded herder of Penguins) , I have to agree that the Disciple of Memphistopheles is too much. The prior version did get a 4d6 flame ray, but the spell you are using gives him multiple rays at once. Perhaps take it along the feats you suggested earlier, have him take stat damage...

    Metamagic Proposal (Take Two)

I am new to this topic but a few thoughts: 1) allow the PC to use meta magic in 1 of 2 ways, your way or standard. Your way is generally more useful, but the added flexibility couldn't hurt (and bypasses the comment about limited uses - only 4 1st lv spells) 2) cap the highest level spell...
