    Status of D&D Game Table?

If that's how it was interpreted, I must have been unclear, and I am sorry. It was not my intent. My comments were entirely based on the claim it was going to be released in time for the 4e release, which seemed improbable to me based on the "It was at alpha in December" comment. Five months...

6 months later: impressions of 4e

Well, I was going to post my own thread on this topic, but since this one is already here... Things I Was Wrong About: a)The game would be "EZ Mode" and no one would ever die. WRONG! Combats are vicious and at least one PC is getting death marks in each one, on average. I often drift into...

Where are all of the campaign settings?

Part of the problem is that the GSL, as written, makes it very foolish to invest any development effort in IP which might have other uses beyond "Setting book for 4e". Since everyone dreams of their setting being the next Dragonlance/Realms/Whatever multimedia sensation, companies are hesitant...

    Status of D&D Game Table?

Yeah, well, back around February or March of 2008, I said that if Game Table was in alpha in December of 2007 (which was when it was previewed and claimed to be 'in alpha'), no way was it going to be ready for launch, and Scott Rouse basically did the "Are you saying I'm a liar? You talking to...

Rituals - A wizard can Raise Dead?

Where does it say you need to read to use a scroll? They may have ez-to-follow pictures. :)

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

I would like to see something like:"Orcus knows, and commonly uses, these rituals: A, B, C. He also has access to a unique ritual, which he sometimes teaches to his most devoted priests: D."

Rituals - A wizard can Raise Dead?

Yes, but Ritual Caster is NOT required to use a ritual scroll. (I keep seeing this misconception, over and over...) I like the "IKEA" example. A ritual scroll is like a bookcase from Ikea. You get all the parts, you follow the directions, and you have a bookcase. You don't need any skill or...

Rituals - A wizard can Raise Dead?

Given the scroll and 500 gold pieces, the bartender at the Drunken Pig can cast Raise Dead, and can't fail. Anything beyond that is houseruling. (The design goal was to prevent any class from being "necessary" -- you can play with any combination of classes, with the useful non-combat spells...

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

Well, to be fair... Level-based costs were in 3e as well -- magic items, etc. There was, however, nothing I can think of which cost more per character level: It cost as much to Raise a 1st level Commoner as an Epic level Wizard. I can accept, though, that The Powers That Be value the souls of...

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

See, I have the exact opposite reaction. In 3.5, I had a kobold race, and I could easily create kobold wizards, kobold fighters, kobold rogue/barbarians, kobold whatevers, give them whatever items they needed, give them the skills that made them seem "real". The kobold chief had a high...

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

Well, if one of the PCs Polymorphed themselves into an Erinyes, and she and Asmo' were "gettin' down", and Asmodeus had a taste for the kinky, it might be good to know her Escape Artist check DC if it came up...

    Cover and Secondary Attacks

If a character is behind cover, does he get the cover bonus to AC from secondary attacks? Specifically, someone shoots a poisoned arrow at the character, which hits. The poison is a secondary attack vs. fortitude. Does cover protect? The rules say cover "protects from ATTACKS", period. Logic...

    Book Prices...

But that's completely different from the issue of if the price is worth it. The books are cheaper, now, than they were 20 years ago, and have higher quality content. The fact they're a luxury item is pretty irrelevant to the discussion. Profit margins are razor thin and game companies constantly...

    Book Prices...

Yes, and if you ARe making that little, and it's your only source of income and you're self-supporting, you probably shouldn't be buying game books with it. (I bought game books when I was a minimum wage earner, because I was a minor supported by my parents. If I had to choose between food and...

    Book Prices...

Yes, because I was a teenager who earned minimum wage. An RPG book cost me 4-5 hours of work. An hour for a pack of four miniatures. About two hours for a module. And I only worked a few hours a week and had to save most of my money for college.

    Multiclassing and Inspiring Word

Actually, that one's in the FAQ too, and it's pretty clear: Yes, you can Run while Slowed. These answers will annoy a player in our 4e game, who argued the opposite on both of them.

    Multiclassing and Inspiring Word

Cool. On another issue we've been having, if you're Slowed, you can still Run, adding 2 to your speed, right?

They were much more expensive. You paid more, in raw dollars, for fewer pages and poorer art.

    Multiclassing and Inspiring Word

When you multiclass to Warlord, you get a Daily use of Inspiring Word. Does this mean you can use it twice per encounter, but only one encounter per day, OR does it mean one single, solitary use? Same for Cleric multiclass.
