    The Bane of the Inevitable

Why not make an intelligent Mace of Smiting? The mace of smiting has better destruction potential (vs constructs) and you can supplement the base mace through intelligent item abilities. You could also give the mace the construct bane ability (although adding effects to specific magic items is...

*Why* full round metamagic for socerers?

While 3.0 haste and quickened spells were playable they had a definite tendency of having the spellcasters leave the nonspellcasting characters in the dust at mid to high levels. Given the obvious goal towards intra-party balance across all levels of play it stands to reason that the significant...

Making a New PC Race - Assigning the LA

Far too potent for +1 LA unless it's also saddled with a handful of humanoid hitdice. For instance many of it's not that much inferior to a bugbear in ability adjustment (a plus +4 is generally more powerful than 2 +2 ability adjustments) further the speed increase and the powerful build more...

    D&D 2E Scarab of Protection [2E Item]

Keep in mind that rings of protection in 2e (not sure about other protection items) tended to provide a bonus to saves in addition to the AC bonus. For the most part this seems to have been removed from 3e. Further a +1 bonus to a saving throw vs spells is significantly less powerful than a +1...

Some questions about friendly spells and SR

SR is of significant power at higher levels but the neccesity of using standard actions to lower SR to recieve beneficial spells like buffs and healing in combat is perhaps a bit much of a cost. At 13th level (which is where the monk gets SR as an innate ability) this means that during the...

    elvin pally question.

Correlon Larethian and Sehanine Moonbow are generally the most appropriate of the major Seldarine for a elf paladin to worship/venerate.

Power Attack and Readied Actions, when do you declare?

I think you are viewing the process of power attacking and a ready action interrupting as a bit too instantaneous. The way I've always envisioned power attack is like really laying into a blow (the +x to damage)without being so concerned about the recovery time of your weapon and whether that...

Some questions about friendly spells and SR

I think that would definitely be a fair houserule for most campaigns. I was never really a fan of SR negatively impacting healing spells.

Some questions about friendly spells and SR

Unfortunately no, while you can choice to lower your SR voluntary to recieve the benefits of a harmless spell it requires a standard action and your SR stays down until your next turn. The result being that unless the character keeps spending standard actions to keep SR down in combat healing...

Roleplaying character attributes, specifically Widsom & Intelligence

A High Wisdom Low Intelligence monk would likely be an infrequent speaker but when he chooses to speak often will say deeply meaningful things. He'll discern the truth of a situation not through learning or logical deduction but rather intuition, ie he sees to the heart of the matter without...

*Why* full round metamagic for socerers?

It's a wierd rule designed for class balance that isn't given much of a "fluff" reason for existing. As such depending on where you stand on relative wizard vs sorceror power looks either neccesary or horribly unfair. I think the best solution long term would be to make all the metamagic feats...

    Playing without a tank

The druid animal companion (assuming a relatively powerful melee form) should provide a decent amount of muscle at low levels and summon nature ally should provide the brute force needed. Often times is might be worthwhile for the druid to summon 1d3 of a lower level summon ally rather than the...

Power Attack and Readied Actions, when do you declare?

I think this depends on whether you view the attack action as an intrinsic part of the charge or if you view it as distinct. Personally for ease of adjudication I would rule that at the beginning of the charge action the attacker indicates the Power Attack he's wanting to use and he is subject...

    Necromancy army VS Leadership army

From a purely PC balance perspective I'd venture the Necromancy army is slightly more powerful but the leadership follower army is significantly more flexible. Looking at it from a less game oriented aspect the army o' zombies or skeletons have a significant logistics saving over a humanoid...

    All aboard the Leader-ship

IMHO I've found that with a few possible exceptions making a character with >2 LA is generally suboptimal except with specific class choices. The reduction in HD, BAB, and saves generally seem to doom most characters with >2 LA in long term games unless you allow the player to buy off the...

    Reserve Feats for healers?

If they include it it should be roughly akin to a ring of regeneration at best or it's worth a bit too much in comparison to other feats.

What's a Nice Lesser Planar Ally for a Priest of the Elder Elemental God

Tekeli-li indeed. Very shoggoth in feel (well maybe advanced in size some ;))

AC 56 at level 6! You too can do it!

Meh, Pun Pun relies on the ability to transform into a specific monster from one setting that was a) poorly thought out b) arguably not playtested and c) assumes a very liberal rules interpretation about iterative transformations that might no longer be valid with the substantial changes to...

    All aboard the Leader-ship

Remember maximum cohort level is character level -1. That being said if a 8th level human paladin is stronger than a 6th level Half-Dragon Paladin then the Half-Dragon LA of +3 is clearly problematic. However I concur that leadership and the ECL system in general leave a lot to be desired.

    All aboard the Leader-ship

However it's not really a Leadership specific nerf to ECL >0 it's inherent to all character level based abilities such as when the character recieves feats and stat increases. Based on my gut instinct I would say there would be no real problem basing leadership on ECL rather than Character Level.
