1) A lot of rules, obscure and otherwise, DO often get handwaved away. 1e is not a particularly simple system as written. 2) I didn't see this "bunch of people" saying how much the game sucks.

There's a guy in the local D&D Meetup group whose campaign is called "World of Phalos" (I think that's how he spells it, anyway). I've thought about pointing out to him that he may as well call his setting Weiner World, but so far I have resisted the urge.

The hours aren't that great, but oh, the benefits! (This place needs some CM-style smilies...)

Dunno if you would get any use out of it, but Dragon #246 has some rules and fluff for homonculi. It's for 2e, but maybe you could glean some stuff for converting or flavor.

Nope, wouldn't buy or play it. I've been running a 1e campaign for a couple of years now, and I have all the materials I would ever need for it. Plus - and this isn't a slight against them, just personal taste - I'm not a fan of WotC's "flavor" of D&D, and I can't imagine that their vision...
