D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Right but you couldn't have access to anything else anyway because the Ranger has a specific list, as does the Sorcerer, they differ, so that's the most you could have. In the example I am giving, the wizard can access higher level spells through their spell book and copying higher level spells.

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

By the way for what it is worth I am not trying to game the system here. I think you track spell slots as a single-class for purposes of spell preparations, then you calculate them again as multi-class for purposes of total spell slots. And that's how I'd DM it. But I wanted people's thoughts on...

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Indeed. And the multiclassing rules say you track preparations based on single-class but spell slots based on combined classes, and yet preparations in single-class are based on spell slots. So do you track spell slots for each single-class when calculating preparations, but multi-class when...

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Yes. However, the rule for the single-classed Wizard is, "The chosen spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots." That's the limit that class gives on what spells you can prepare. So what spell slots do you have? Are you seeing the issue I am having now?

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Yes. And the rules for WHAT YOU CAN PREPARE is what I am asking about You skipped a step. How do you know a Wizard 3 can prepare level 3 wizard spells? By looking at the spell slots chart, not at a separate prepared spells chart. Because there is no separate prepared spells chart. The Wizard...

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Yes they're prepared individually, but still depend on spell slots for what you can prepare individually. So do you track spell slots individually for purposes of preparation?

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Right the issue is "higher level than spells you prepare." The "Prepare" rules seem to say you can prepare any spell you know up to your highest spell slot. Oh no, the mention of the higher level spell caster in the party is just to mention I can access spells for my spellbook of higher levels...

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

It's 2024 rules, that's why I was asking. The way it reads seems to imply you can prepare spells for slots you have for each class, and you have 3rd level slots.

D&D (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

I'm creating a multiclass higher level PC [edit: under 2024 rules], and am confused on which spells I can cast with which spell slots. I thought I had the rules down, but realize now there is nuance I hadn't considered. Looking for opinions from those who have more experience than I do. PC is...

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

I'm not arguing that, just anyone claiming they know the future with certainty :)

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

Yes I am aware. Right now analysts put the odds of a recession between 40% and 65%. That's the best data we have, and it's far from certain.

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

The problem is, we have no idea if we're going to enter a depression, or recession, or what.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I would love to hear play reports about both Shadowdark and ACK! Looking forward to it.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

This is really where I am at. I am so, so tired of the D&D community being about complaining constantly about things they dislike, so much more than talking about the things they like. I so rarely even see people talking about the games they're actually playing, I wonder if people ARE actually...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I don't think there is any indication at all that the intent is to produce writing or art in books generated with AI. They've repeatedly implied it's DM and Player tools, not a replacement for their artists and writers. That said, I will buy things which are good and that I will use.

Naw naw naw, come on now. You were not speculating. You said, "The CEO literally stated he is using AI. This isn't even speculation." You even directly told us your statements were not speculation in case anyone was confused.

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I think people are getting a bit carried away on Shadowdark. Sure, it got a lot 13,000 sales. That's great for an indie publisher. But, that's not representative of "older fans." That's barely a rounding error in the quantity of older fans.

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

He never said or implied they would write rules and adventures with AI. He said, and implied, AI tools in the hands of DMs and players. At the time I gave a bunch of examples of what he's likely talking about, and how we've been using those things for a while and they're super helpful, and...
