    What about negative stat modifiers?

I perused the books, and I might have missed it, but what about negative stat scores? For example, If I have 16 Dex (+3) and 8 Int (-1), I will obviously go with Dex for my Reflex defense (and AC bonus), but am I penalized with my low Int, for a net bonus on AC and Ref of +2 (+3 -1)? If not...

D&D 4E How does 4E hold up on verisimilitude?

Verisimilitude isn't realism, it is consistency within it's own given premise. Yes, there is more verisimilitude in 4th ed than in 3rd.

Minions. The DM knows 'em. Do the players?

About wasting dailies on minions: This is a non-issue. Extremely quickly (in a games session or two, I suspect), players will get into the habit of making their first attack on most critters with an at-will power, and if he's still standing after one hit, THEN decide if they want to waste...

    Grognard's First Take On 4e

A huge AMEN to this. My last 3.5 character was a rogue that I played from 1st level to about 17th. During the whole course of this character's career, by the time he finally got in an advantageous position to truly sneak attack, the fight was over (or 1 round away). I felt cheated by the...

Do you think you will play on DDI?

I will (if even) only use it in my face to face games, instead of a battlemat. We've been using Interactive Dungeon for years now, and I might use DDI if it has ID's features and more, AND can be used at a common table.

    Orcs preview

Those stat blocks are smooth, nasty, and fun. They're putting the "M" back in DM. Niiice...

No small weapons - I'm okay with this

I am perfectly OK with it too, I don't really care, but I fully understand where the nitpickers are coming from. If you accept that premise, than you state that Halfling smiths only make weapons for medium size creatures, not for themselves... it's a weird premise. The more elegant thing to do...

What will you/do you use for marks?

Some of you more wargame-oriented folks might look forward at filling your battlemats (which I don't use) with pebbles, elastics, pins and whatnot, but if I can't use 4th ed mechanics with just a few scribbles here and there, than I will house-rule the hell out of it. That mechanic for monsters...

Your role? Nothing matters but combat.

Will mentioned it above, but the snarkiness and vitriol has blinded people from taking note of it, so I'll reiterate in the futile hope that the following fact has to be taken into account: WotC have mentioned quite often that 4th ed now has a better and more evolved social interaction system...

    D&D 4E 4E Liker - anything you worry about?

Well to be honest, the paragon paths excerpt has shown many powers that don't require book-keeping like "until the end of your next turn" or "until a save is made" and very few involving the MARKING procedure so, based on that, my hopes are starting to rise a little bit again. For me it's...

GSL & software support for 3rd party publications

Thank you Mr. Rouse and Imban for those clarifications. I'd rather err on the side of caution and ask a stupid question than the alternative.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Round 4: Combat Slinger. You say "He also uses his standard action to shift an additional square.". I'm sure you meant minor action instead. I'm surprised I'm the first to notice this. Did you guys actually read the damn thing? :p It was a very nice read. I was sure I was reading an excerpt...

Encounter power buffs outside of combat

Yeah, this I would have no problem with. All nice and easy. Let's hope it's like that.

Encounter power buffs outside of combat

Thus the reason for me posting this here thread. When WotC touted that buff/open door/repeat was gone, I was very glad. In 3.5 I house ruled out several times using different ways the buffing aspect of the game. But I was thinking outloud about how can this be applied given what we know about...

Encounter power buffs outside of combat

Well if that's the case (minor action), there is an actual benefit of putting it up before combat if you don't win initiative (in the case of a buff that raises your defenses frex).

Encounter power buffs outside of combat

What would prevent you from activating an encounter power that buffs you for a whole encounter before opening the door to a room? WotC says that they've put an end to that, but I hope it isn't simply by saying "well, you're not in an encounter per se, so you can't". I would hope someone...

    Rogue exploit plus sneak attack

ALso of note is that we still don't really know how often, within the 4th ed combat dynamics, the rogue will be able to sneak. If it ain't almost every round, then the rogue will suck as much as his 3rd ed counterpart. If that is the case, the ranger appears to be a better choice for a striker.

'Dungeons & Dragons' fights for its future

It's all good buddy. I'm quick to jump the gun on some posts, with the tone this forum often has because of this 4th edition thingie. Indeed. For all we know, he might convert... "What??? You can play CRPG'S *FOR REAL*???"
