D&D 5E The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

Which maneuvers are the best? And why?

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

The cleric player could have stated something like: "if the rogue drops" as the trigger for the readied action, and the giant just misses all attacks. Not very likely, and not very smart, but it happens. Also, by reading an action, the cleric might change the combat circumstances, as he could...

D&D 5E Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

Here is the deal. If you begin your planning on a specific character as soon as you start talking about a campaign, then probably you want a stable starting point for your planning, you will build your concept taking into account the resources you know already are available, and point buy is...

    Level 20 Capstone Abilities

There is at least one more difference, which is related to saves. This matters more even if evasion-able enemies are involved. I know this difference is not set in stone, but it frequently plays a role. There are also some peculiarities that are usually associated with different elements, such...

D&D 5E Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

Play an unarmored half-orc storm sorcerer who favors frontlining using a knife charged with booming blade. Go full in with skills such as intimidation, survival and athletics. Grab the outlander background. If you also want some roleplaying hints, make him believe he is a full blooded orc and...

    Level 20 Capstone Abilities

I just disagree that all elements should be equal, and that elemental substitution plays well. For me it undermines the idea of the different elements to begin with. There isn't. I just used them as a hook for this topic. 90% of all ranger class abilities can also be attempted most of the...

    Level 20 Capstone Abilities

Do you think this needs fixing? Is it really interesting when everything is the same, just colors changing? One of the things I miss the most from earlier editions are monsters such as golems, that were practically impervious to magic. Nobody needs to be at full capacity at every given...

    Level 20 Capstone Abilities

While I agree with most of what you have written, I tend to disagree with the last sentence. The bonus seems small, but as you can apply it after the die roll, that potentially means the bonus will be applied to attacks only to convert misses into hits, and if all attacks hit, then it will be...

D&D 5E Waterball, the spell - what level should it be?

Sometimes D&D (or games in general?) works just like this, and effects that are much more of a stretch from reality get away being lower level spells because their destructive impact (or overall usefulness) is limited.

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

I guess I will try initially to just stick with the book, and show the danger of disregarding a fallen ally by making an enemy finish them on the ground. I will not use that in any fight, but will wait until they get to one against smart foes, who can plausibly respond to their preferred...

D&D 5E Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

I like to roll. I like the challenge of making effective characters out of mediocre stats, and I like the opportunity of making some "outrageous" stat-race-class combinations when I get lucky with the rolls (str & int 16+ orc warlocks FTW!!). But mostly, I like the randomness that follows.

    D&D 5E Help - I Over-did It!

Don't overthink the whole situation, I guess you are good, it wouldn't really bother me if I was DMing in your situation.

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

Yes, that is the good thing about having these kinds of conversations. I started writing pretty convinced I knew what the issue was, but after some exchanges in post, feedback from fellow forum-dwellers about consequences of the proposed changes and also suggestions on how I might do things...

    D&D 5E Continual Flame Question

I would be delighted to listen to the OP's rationale behind the possibility of continual flame giving an object fireproof properties.

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

Revivify is one exception to the resurrection spells that I just "charge" the expected from the book, as we perceive this as more of analogous to an expensive last resort cure than to an actual raising from the dead. Curiously, this one spell usually was kept on the paladin arsenal, and I think...

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

Thank you guys for the contributions, you have made fair points, and do anticipate some issues I was not foreseeing. Maybe I am just facing an odd problem. Some of my players have been complaining about that "bouncing heroes" feature for quite some time already, and this complaint even crosses...

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

I know it has been pointed out already, but I would like to somehow add to the choir: Why is Acererak being carelessly thrown on the realms? I mean, there are some quite interesting liches, evil archmages or über-priests of evil deities already on the realms that could easily fulfill the role...

D&D 5E What would you miss about 5E if you were playing AD&D?

I don't mind at all. Thank you very much for sharing, this is actually very well thought and mixes well with the game rules in general. The restriction introduced by a reaction is an interesting one. I am seriously thinking about adopting this mechanic. By the way, I have some questions about...

D&D 5E Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

You know that DM that likes their game to be one which hero death matters? Who feels like the game should seem deadly on the perspective of the adventures so to keep them on their toes? Who takes from their hat add-ons to resurrection and raise dead spells that effectively make them...

D&D 5E What would you miss about 5E if you were playing AD&D?

Do you know what are the specific 5e characteristics that lead to this happening? I was thinking if it is related to bounded accuracy leading to heroes hitting enemies too frequently when compared to the older editions, but on the other hand, every monster has way more HD/HPs now. Then I thought...
