    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Dollars to donuts says that [W] is weapon dmg - playtest reports confirm that weapon damage is still expressed in dice of different sizes, so 1[W] = standard weapon dmg dice, 2[W] = double dmg dice, etc.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Awesome, awesome stuff. Quick summation of what look like the highlights: 1 - Int doesn't affect your amount of trained skills. 2 - Con only affects healing surges and 1st level hitpoints, not subsequent levels. 3 - Dmg is a LOT lower than it was in 3.x - only 5d6 sneak attack damage at Epic...

    PHB classes: fact or rumor

I've definitely seen a "shadow" power source mentioned by WotC people at some point. There might have been a hint about in the Shadowfell section of W&M, though I'm not sure. Also, I know we've seen at least one playtest report where one of the players was playing a *redacted* class, so there...

D&D 4E Going/Not Going to 4E which edition did you start with?

Started with White Wolf (aberrant), graduated to 3.5, dipped into Iron Heroes/SWSE, jumping at the bit for 4E.

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

But even better if you remove the sword. Then you're just wielding a "Great". :)

    Why WILL you switch?

Tons of minor reasons, but there are 2 big ones that stand out: 1) Death of Vancian spell-casting (stupidest, most annoying mechanic ever) 2) Straight Fighters supposedly being actually worth playing after 7th level

    D&D 3E/3.5 I love 3E. I love 4E. I'm mad!

3.x was a great game, and I had a lot of fun with it. But to be honest, I was getting a little tired of it last year. Even before the 4E announcement, we were poking around, playing with Iron Heroes, old White Wolf stuff, etc. I'm in 3 games a week, so there was always 3.x going on somewhere...

    D&D 4E DM Fiat Supreme in 4e

Yeah, I remember the first time a nasty fey giant moved up to me and then made a full attack I freaked out and got completely out of character for a minute. Then I realized my DM in that game was home-brewing, remembered that he's a good DM, and relaxed and enjoyed a good fight.

    Custom classes?

WTF is your Scrapper? If you're talking about home-brewing classes, I don't see why it'd stop you. You'll be just as good or bad at balancing and designing it as you were before.

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: SINGLE BEST Product of 3rd edition (poll closed)

*laughs* Hey Dave, Monte's rigging your poll! (Teaches me to read all the way through before I vote - I glanced over the list and went with PHB II - didn't even see Ptolus on there, otherwise I would have voted for it too).

    D&D 4E I want 4E NOW!

Can't wait 'til June, can't wait 'til June, can't wait 'til June . . . I enjoyed my 3.5 games a lot, but knowing there's something better coming has made me totally lose interest in 3.5. I'm already planning to take time off work as soon as it comes out. (Man, I'm a geek).

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

Yeah, I'd be all over this if 4E wasn't already coming out. As it is, I'm sticking with SWSE as my 3.75, and as cool as these look, I don't think I'm going to spend any more money on a game I don't plan on playing again (3.5).

    15 Minute NPCs

Yes, it will. 4E is also a surprisingly helpful marriage counselor, and will create playlists of your favorite music automatically.

Love the Game, Hate the Marketing

And don't forget that the OGL gave us Iron Heroes - many of the ideas in 4E come from that. Also, there is a significant proven talent pool WotC can draw on in hiring from people working on OGL D20 products. I'm not saying the OGL needs to continue exactly as it is, but I wouldn't call it a...

    15 Minute NPCs

Okay, leaving aside the debate over whether or not tables are organic, I think the main point this thread has proved is that A) everyones play-styles and requirements for NPCs differ and B) you can't make a custom NPC by the rules in 3.5 in under 30 minutes. I think this is a minor semantic...

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

You could always try Dausuul's mechanic - "slap a fresh skin on it and ignore the odd muscles underneath" - I'm going to be in his first 4E game, and I'm gung-ho to play a Dragonborn, but I'll be playing a Fury instead. The parts I wanted (sweet melee positive race and honor-bound mercenary...

    Pit Fiend Defenses Explained

I agree. To make your math work, you're essentially assigning random bonuses to the monster role as if it were a class. I think the "level 26 leader" generates those basic stats all on its own and the ability modifiers have very little to do with it.

Brilliant Idea for WotC: "Classic Settings" books (and a poll, of sorts)

    Hmm - I wasn't around for the originals, but I'll go: 1. Dark Sun 2. Planescape 3. Al-Qadim

It Starts (Splatbooks - Martial Power in October)

Why Martial first? We already have 4 out of the 8 classes in the PHB as Martial classes. Don't get me wrong, I love my melee brutes as much as the next man (if not more), but why Martial first? Wouldn't some Divine or Arcane love make more sense?
