D&D (2024) WoTc and TSR... what is D&D

You do actually have to browse around rather than beeline to the pharmacy and back out the door.

D&D 5E Is Tasha's More or Less The Universal Standard?

I'm confused by this. Are you saying power creep means a bunch of options on par with the regularly used options from the PHB? Are you saying that Tasha's would only be not creeping power by having everything be slightly worse than the frequently used options offered in the PHB? That doesn't...

D&D (2024) WoTc and TSR... what is D&D

No, I most certainly mean Walgreens. They carry lots of stuff, it's not just a store for medicine. Saw this there the other day. https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/my-arcade-pac-man-handheld-portable-gaming-system/ID=300403161-product

D&D (2024) WoTc and TSR... what is D&D

I have a huge folder Ron my PC of the tons of maps, small adventures, and micro supements they used to release during 5e. I was hoping the Elemental Companion "free supplement" at the beginning of 5e was going to be ongoing (it was an amazing freebie) but that died on the vine.

D&D (2024) WoTc and TSR... what is D&D

Edit: Misread what you meant by "pick-up" so my reply doesn't address your point really, but I am addressing the physical availability side so I will leave my post. You can walk into any big box store (Walgreens as an example) in the US and buy a retro classics console for an Atari...

D&D (2024) The future of edition changes and revisions

I'm going to go on record saying that I fear 5e will be very akin to the Nintendo Wii in that it's massively popular but a large amount of the consumers aren't at all interested in chasing that dragon a second time. The Wii was one of the most successful consoles of all time in getting new...

    Managing My Expectations? (+)

I think this is a very wise and adult way to go about it, but in our case we have various players who need some degree of "checking in" with jobs and kids throughout the evening. I don't mind the time spent responding to a work issue or telling the kids to do the dishes, but it's the sharing of...

    Managing My Expectations? (+)

I had very similar feelings to the OP in my real world game awhile ago. I NEEDED the player to get more proactively involved in the world and the story. I tried to get my feeling across to them by explaining that my job shouldn't be to lay out a buffet they come and eat every week, but instead...

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

I have never looked at a Cyberpunk book in my life. I have, however, played a LOT of different 90s era systems. That is no doubt the worst art I have seen in an RPG product in the history of RPG products. It looks like a photo someone might send to an artist to give them an idea what they...

    D&D 5E A Calculated Critical (Unbalanced... probably)

It would make Faerie Fire the GOAT.

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

I think the character level stuff was fine in d20 SW but the vehicle combat was where it went off the rails. This is probably why I like KotOR but not the system in general. Where d6 SW comes out on top is the same system is used for everything from wookies ripping arms off, bullseyeing womp...

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

To be fair....you really shouldn't be playing Paranoia for the crunch regardless of edition.

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

D20 Star Wars was a big step down in emulating Star Wars from WEG Star Wars. D20 Call of Cthulhu is an even bigger step down from Chaosium Call of Cthulhu. Basically, shovelling an IP into the d20 system because you can doesn't make for an improvement.

D&D 5E Interested in seeing your homebrew 5e Magic Items

I introduced all of the items from the 80s DnD cartoon into my game. The one that would fit your party. Ranger's Magic Bow Operates as a +1 longbow. Does not require ammunition. Deals force damage instead of piercing. Acrobats Springing Pole Operates as a +1 quarterstaff. Magically extends...

D&D 4E Dissociating what I (we?) like from the mechanics

You are spending a lot of time, words, and effort to convince me my opinion isnt correct. I will attempt to rephrase. Me no likey when 1st level barbarian beat 20th level wizard at Arcana check. Feel wrong. Me also not like big number plusses. Wish for dice system that make me happy.

D&D 4E Dissociating what I (we?) like from the mechanics

"Smooth over the fickleness of small modifiers tacked onto a straight random 1-20 roll" was the concept....not just small modifiers by themselves. The fickle part is the d20, the smoothing is the 2d10.

D&D 5E Spells you house rule?

Suffers from the same problem as a rogue who is perpetually hidden....that just means more attacks piled up on other targets, making those PCs go down that much faster. My first campaign had two characters who would never be in danger during many battles (flying wizard and hiding rogue) and it...

D&D 5E Spells you house rule?

You are just restarting what I said. We agree in the example situation. If the fighter/player thinks something is off and is checking it out the cleric can use guidance. To make it more explicit ... In the example I would not allow guidance just because the bartender used stealth versus the...

D&D 5E Spells you house rule?

The fighter is always looking at something as long as he is awake (and not blind?). I'd the fighter leaned in and told the cleric (I think the bartender is up to something) then it makes sense the cleric could guidance him in on figuri g out what that thing is. For all the cleric knows without...

D&D 4E Dissociating what I (we?) like from the mechanics

Yes, but that IS what I'm going for. When you have small bonuses you can employ the flattened curve of 2d10 to make things less swingly but still have a functional system. If you were to try to apply the 2d10 system to a game with big bonuses (3.5 for example) then the bonuses eventually make...
