    D&D General Bedlamite

So this is a 5e invention? Yikes. Rather ableist isn't it?

    D&D General Bedlamite

Considering the association of bedlamite with archaic mental institutions and views on mental illness... perhaps change the term? I have no information on the topic, sorry :(

    D&D 5E All Spells *At Will*??? (+)

I think that these discussions should consider what other systems do re "magic at will" Notably, warhammer has a "magic at will" system. How do they balance it? 1: magic is unreliable. a spell may fail 2: magic is dangerous: a spell can backfire 3: magic users are specialized. No "swiss...

WotC WotC Removes Release Dates From Promo Images For 2024

Is that going to be the cover of the PHB?

D&D 5E Players Only: How Often Should Your Character Be Able to "Go Nova"?

I think it depends on the "strength" of the nova. For a fighter, going nova is action surge. For a paladin it's smite. At higher level, the paladin can have a much bigger nova than a fighter, buuuut not as often. So that balances out.

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

I came here to post this. Dungeons of Drakkenheim is an excellent adventure, both "content wise" but also how well thought out it is from an organization/ease of use perspective. I'm currently running it with my players at home :)

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

back in the mid 90s, and recently when I was a player in a dragons of icespire peak. But I haven't used it much in between those...

D&D General Do you incorporate holiday or festive themes into your games?

I recently watched the 2nd episode of "Blue Eye Samurai" (excellent show, some nudity and violence, on Netflix). On top of being an excellent episode with amazing fight choreography, there was an excellent depiction of a religious festival. The mixture of civic festivities and religious...

    D&D General Destroying Rome?

a few comments 1: Loooove alternate earth campaign. I did a big one in Zeugma, where the city survived longer than it did in real life, in 1150. In mine, atlantis falling was an important aspect, because the survivors of atlantis went to found egypt and were "immortal" elves. 2: The...

D&D 5E A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

I think you need to tell your players that this game isn't for fun but to satisfy the curiosity of internet people they never heard of. That should motivate them!

D&D General Worldbuilding Assumptions: On the Origin of Species

I usually keep it vaguely defined, but I do have one race I went into pretty thorough detail. The Yoon-Suin campaign setting has many strengths, and one of them is that it leaves the individual DM a lot of room to create their own version of Yoon-suin. The origin of slugmen wasn't explained...

Planescape My Notes about the Githzerai

Dak'kon's class is an interesting question in 5e. EK: maybe, but his magic seemed too potent for that Warlock (hexblade). Maaaaybe? Bladesinger: seems the best fit, but would need to be reflavored College of sword: hmmmm not really? another interesting - doesn't quite fit but still cool -...

D&D 5E Combat Encounters Per Dungeon Budget

So perhaps some more useful advice, following that nit-picking (sorry!): I think a major factor on how dangerous a dungeon is is how "reactive" the dungeon is. If, for a number of reasons, the party is able to take it one room at a time, it's much easier to manage. If however a fight in room...

D&D 5E Combat Encounters Per Dungeon Budget

When you say "hard or medium", do you mean encounters that are actually hard or medium, or hard or medium as defined by the DMG? I'm saying that because I - and many others - have found that a medium encounter, as defined by the DMG, is usually quite easy. Because given 2 short rests...

D&D 5E Combat Encounters Per Dungeon Budget

30 years of gaming, and this is the first time I've seen this recommendation. A rather handy rule of thumb! I also note that it needs 18 rooms minimum to "work" (given one sixth of one third).

D&D 5E Rune Knight Is The Best Fighter Overall IMHO.
