D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

When I said "creature or object", that was a direct quote from the rules. I did not invent this.

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

That is a very useful observation Morrus, thank you. Based on this, I speculate that this will be a "niche" power for a small section of monsters (it really fits for constructs) and not a general mechanie.

D&D (2024) Aberrant Mind Sorcerer With a High Intelligence?

Some clerics/druids in 5.5 can use wisdom to do arcana or other scholarly test, that would be a very simple way of doing it.

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

Perhaps I should explain why I like Dungeons of Drakkenheim so much. Dungeons of Drakkenheim is set on a ruined city, contaminated by raw magic crystals (delerium) and filled with magic-mutated monsters. The story/plot is pretty cool, but a lot of D&D adventures have cool plots/story. What...

D&D (2024) Char Creation Homebrew Proposals for my DM. Yes/No?

I agree with with a lot of what has been said: - Let the new DM play -Play the game "as is" for the first time - That being said, custom backgrounds is probably fine. What we're going to do it is a "change one thing". For example, a sailor could have alert instead of tavern brawler. It adds...

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

You know, you really should look into Dungeons of Drakkenheim. It's a 3rd party product, and it's preeeety good. /broken record

    D&D (2024) Treantmonk's Ranger DPS video:

The beast master using bonus action and hunter's mark using bonus action is one heck of a bottle neck, in melee or at ranged...

    D&D (2024) Treantmonk's Ranger DPS video:

The new video seems to indicate that the ranger is outdamaged by a rogue when archery is involved.

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

See, I think there is a value to having... thresholds of power. Tiers, if you will. And this mechanism could be great at enforcing those tiers. But you are 100% right that there is a danger of it being overused. I would like it more as a "porous" threshold, where only a portion of the...

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

It makes sense that if I'm going to fight a being that is much larger than I, say an ogre or giant, I would want a big weapon that hits hard. A spadroon isn't going to to cut it - literally.

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

as noted, not a damage reduction, but a threshold. beat the threshold, you do all the damage.

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

Ah, but in 3e, the damage was reduced. Here it's a threshold. Say you attack a monster with DR 10, and you do 2 attacks, doing 9 and 13 damage. First attack does nothing, second does 3. But with a threshold of 10, the first attack still does nothing, but the second one does full damage, ie...

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

I am very intrigued - the "creature or object" verbiage. It's also possible this mechanic is unique to certain creature types - constructs, perhaps elementals or undead?

D&D 5E 5E economics -The Peasants are revolting!

A "concrete" example. In my first Yoon Suin campaign, the party was rewarded with a large jar of quicksilver? How much is that worth? A "lot"? But using a yardstick and info from Pliny the Elder, I was able to find it was about 3X silver :)

D&D 5E 5E economics -The Peasants are revolting!

Thank you for the response. And I think arguing about what the yardstick should be is a totally valid line of inquiry. But I can tell you that, for me at least, using income as the yardstick has proven to be very useful for world building. Hopefully my idea (use a yard stick, decide what it...

D&D (2024) Damage Threshold, the new "need a magic weapon"?

Hello A big change in 5.0 was how some large magical monsters were suddenly more vulnerable to massed attack than before. This was particularly notable when combined with bound accuracy. Imagine a dragon, 200 HP 19 AC, swooping down to attack a town with her breath weapon. Unknown to her, a...

D&D 5E 5E economics -The Peasants are revolting!

All these discussions on the "value of a gold piece" are... not going to be productive if people can't agree on an "economic yardstick". Price lists in RPGs, unless modern setting ones with up to date info, are usually wrong in one way or the other. Usually within a same "kind" of goods the...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

My thoughts is that I would refuse to play such a campaign. On top of the "this is fanfiction" aspect, ever since the author had decided to become a fountain of transphobia I want nothing to do with this IP.

D&D (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

I disagree with you... I think. are you saying that because batman "doesn't have super powers" the super hero genre's power level is lower than we are thinking it is? Because it's arguable that the #1 super hero representative is not batman, it's superman... I do think you're touching on an...

    D&D 5E Party Rolled a Teleport Mishap Near 200 giants-Plz Help!

Anyone who has GMed for a while has made several mistakes - we're all human! And again, depending on your GMing style, your players expectations, not following the rules could be "better", ultimately only you know the answer. What was not a mistake though was asking other GMs here for help...
