So how long have YOU been playing D&D?

Wow! Cool mom. I remember running mine through Keep on the Borderlands. As for me, blue basic box, 1980.

Do You Only Play D&D For Your RPGing?

Hell no. Right now the guys in my group and I go back and forth between an 3.5 Eberron game, A Castles & Crusades game, a Wheel of Time game, Deadlands, Pendragon, 3.5 Scarred Lands, and 4e Shadowrun. There's too much good stuff out there to just play one game.

    Shadowrunners chime in

I jumped on board with 2nd edition in the early nineties (1992-3). I always seem to end up running games and have never actually played a character in SR, but my favorite archetypes would have to be riggers and mages/shamans. My favorite adventures are Harlequin, Renraku Arcology: Shutdown...

Dungeons & Dragons Lite: Am I the Only One?

I routinely restrict the books I'll allow players to bring into a game. Currently, my Eberron game uses resources from: PHB DMG MM Eberron Campaign Setting Unearthed Arcana (Cloistered Cleric core class) Complete Divine (one spell) Complete Arcane (one spell)

So in '06 you'll be buying...

I'll be taking a good look at: Player's Giude to Eberron Power of Faerûn Red Hand of Doom Voyage of the Golden Dragon The Keep of Fallen Kings d20 Future Tech

What's your favourite "Forgotten Realms" place?

The Dalelands. Seems to me that their proximity to Zhentil Keep, Cormyr, Cormanthor Forest, Sembia, The Moonsea, The Sea of Fallen Stars, The Vast, Thar and Anauroch make it the place to be in Faerûn.

Rate S3 - Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

Legion of Gold. ;) I gave S3 an "8". IMO, it's a good solid adventure, but I can understand how the "you've got sci-fi in my fantasy!" aspect of the adventure, would turn some players or DMs off.

    [Sept] What Are You Reading?

I'm about 100 pages into Keith Baker's City of Towers: Dreaming Dark Pt. 1. . Pretty good so far, and chock full of ideas for my Eberron campaign. I'm just wondering when the Dreaming Dark is gonna show up...

Selling Delta Green to my Players

If that's the case, ANY CoC is *definitely* not for your group. In this case I'd run a straight d20 Modern game using "fear saves" (DC = 1/2 HD + Cha mod) instead of SAN checks - and following the fear rules straight out of the d20M rules. Characters may still run away, faint, and/or swoon in...

Balrog from Lord of the Rings (part 1)

Ahhh. My bad then. I was reading "Strength" in a "my dad can beat up your dad" kind of way - not (as Joshua pointed out) in a greater/lesser spirit way. Oh, BTW Joshua: Read your blog - good stuff, but balrogs don't have wings. :p

    Delta Green D20, its alive!

Hell, if you can't find a copy of CoC d20, pick up the BRP version. Delta Green is definitely worth it. If you're still convinced d20 is the only way to go, then a conversion from CoC d20 to d20 Modern shouldn't be too hard to do.

Balrog from Lord of the Rings (part 1)

Dude, strength has nothing to do with it. Sauron can't be a balrog because the balrogs were fire spirits not allied with any Valar, while Sauron was a Maia "working" for the Valar named Aulë (until Morgoth corrupted him). Sauron was a lesser Ainur - the Balrogs weren't.

Balrog from Lord of the Rings (part 1)

I agree the Dunedain are not "common" men and should not be lumped together with them, but Isildur got lucky - plain and simple. The most powerful balrog in the first age was named Gothmog. According to the Encyclopedia of Arda: The most powerful of all the Balrogs, one of the chief servants...

    Delta Green D20, its alive!

Judging from the preview, it's going to be CoC d20. Remember, this book has been in the pipeline for years - before CoC d20 went OOP. After all this time I really can't see Pagan re-doing the d20 portion in a different ruleset just because CoC d20 went out of print.

    What Movies Inspire Your Game?

I found inspiration for NPCs, encounters or the feel of my Eberron game in: Casablanca The Maltese Falcon The Big Sleep The Mummy (1999) The Lord of the Rings In the Mouth of Madness The Indiana Jones Trilogy Lawrence of Arabia King Solomon's Mines Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow The...

Balrog from Lord of the Rings (part 1)

Let's also not forget that Glorfindel was a Noldor from the First Age - the time of Fingolfin (who faced Morgoth one on one and managed to wound him badly enough that even when Morgoth killed him he and his orcs didn't boast of the deed) and other uber powerful elves who weren't necessarily mere...

Feng Shui, Paranoia and other such games

I love Paranoia too. It's just a wonderful, wonderful game and when done right it's a blast to play. I've also really enjoyed Conan OGL, Babylon 5, Hackmaster, Castles & Crusades, Middle-Earth Roleplaying (MERP), Decipher's Star Trek RPG, Star Wars d20, Call of Cthulhu, Lord of the Rings...

    [August] Campaign reports

Eberron is still going strong - my guys just wrapped Temple of the Scorpion God, and I'm looking forward to starting Pit of the Fire Lord next session. In between bi-monthly Eberron sessions I'll be running a game or two of my all too infrequent Castles and Crusades Keep on the Borderlands game.

    How often do you game?

Usually twice a month (every two weeks), but occasionally we manage a weekly game. If things are really going my way, I can get a game twice a week. :)
