    D&D 4E Good 4e Stuff from 3rd Party Publishers?

Soldiers of Fortune from Open Design. I believe it's up on DriveThru RPG as well as the KoboldQuarter.com store.

    Wish & Miracle?

I was never a fan of these types of spells.

    Fortune Cards: you likey?

Not true. They (of course) encourage their use, but it was never mandatory. That is some horrible rumor that I keep seeing pop up.

    Edit: Disregard.

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

I agree, UngerheuerLich. The boon design could provide some of the same alternate avenues.

    Need help with Military stuff

It's factually true. There is no such animal as you describe and I can't for the life of me figure out what "field minded" would mean. There is, however, field-grade officers. Being a field-grade officer has nothing to do with your branch/occupational series and is purely related to rank...

    Wish & Miracle?

Let me ask. What are you hoping to capture with a 4e version of Wish and Miracle? Using the ritual casting system you can easily recreate these with little work. Is it your intent to use it to permanently raise attributes, etc...?

    Need help with Military stuff

Field-grade officers do not belong to a branch, it is entirely based on rank. A colonel (field-grade officer) can serve in an administrative branch.

Garrowolf, A lot has already been covered by others. My recommendation is to specify exactly what you want to portray in your work and narrow it down. I suggest finding a few specific areas to cover and focus solely on them. Example: Infantry, Mechanized, Support (etc...). Also, be sure you...

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

Cool article and exactly the line of thinking I had when I put up my own. Jonathan Jacobs from Nevermet Press, as well as others, have commented on the original article. I welcome anyone who had thoughts on this to come and comment so I can start to sift through it all. Loremaster - Game...

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

Some people have been asking about how a sub-system like this would fix the math. I intend to do an sample write-up next week, but the idea is to integrate the necessary increases into the themes. This can, of course, be completely ignored as the fixes already exist in the form of specific...

SteveC - I believe character/class themes would be great too. I'm very happy to see this idea get some traction. As I said before, it is difficult to see if an idea will be well received. From a design perspective, I feel this would be a gold mine moving forward. Aegeri I am very much invested...

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

I created a pirate theme for ENworld. I believe its in the store area. Simularly, I created a mercenary theme for Soldiers of Fortune.

I was just about to reference that. This type of implementation has to be thoroughly examined. It is not a quick nor easy fix/implementation.

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

This would take a full write-up to conceptualize. But, I see it replacing a power or two with the new class as well as adding a single class feature. The drawback of multiclassing would be the inability to truly mimic the secondary class. Though, through the existing feats, you could certainly...

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

Yep. As soon as I saw themes in the DSCG, I knew it was the best answer (notice I did not say perfect. Perfection is neither important nor welcome in a roleplaying game. That's where cookie-cutting begins).
