City Of the Spider Queen first impressions (SPOILER WARNING!)

Re: Re The module officially starts in Daggerdale. However there are suggestions to start it pretty much anywhere in the Realms, then portal the PC's into the Underdark beneath Daggerdale. Given the prevelance of portals in the 3rd edition Realms, this seems like a reasonable solution.

City Of the Spider Queen first impressions (SPOILER WARNING!)

NOTE: THIS POSTING AND SUBSEQUENT REPLIES MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR WOTC'S NEW MEGA-ADVENTURE. PLAYERS READ AT THE RISK OF THE WRATH OF YOUR GM!! My friend returned from GenCon with a shiney new copy of City Of the Spider Queen for me, since I run the Forgotten Realms game he plays in. As far...

Desperate odds, equalizers, and leaving LotR behind

You are correct, Eve Forward -- daughter of scifi author Dr. Robert L. Forward. She's a friend of mine, and someone I gamed with in college. A lot of the stuff in that book is based on her college gaming experiences, and I find little bits of people and characters I know in some of the...

    Background music for games

Sorry, mate, but you must be mistaken, because-- (checking) ...what the-- Dang! You're right! Nuts, it wasn't that way when I last used it, which was only a couple of weeks ago!! Too bad, it's a great station. *sigh*

    Background music for games

If you have a computer in your gaming room with an Internet connection capable of streaming audio, then I recommend a live365.com shoutcast station called WDND. Some brilliant person has taken a ton of movie soundtracks and classical music suitable for fantasy roleplaying, and is streaming them...

Gaming catchphrases, expressions, and idioms--what are yours?

Oh, this is a precious thread! "Blah" Our oldest catchphrase. When the DM has a long scene with only one character, often including great masses of plot-inducing dialog that takes many minutes to roleplay, and the rest of the players hear all of it but don't participate, "blah" is the...

    Forgotten Rums....? Evil Overlords...?

Then I ask, have you actually looked at Lords of Darkness and Silver Marches? Neither of these books have much hard-core crunchiness. But neither of them have any stories in them, either. These are not prosaic White Wolf products. These are excellent fact-filled supplements with lots of useful...

    (FR) Silver Marches

Could someone with the book tell us about the Peerless Archer PrC? I've got a player in my game dying to find out about it.

[DMs] You've slowed advancement. How does that affect loot?

In my experience, not quite. The one thing that your players will still burn through at a normal rate are "consumables." Items with charges, potions, scrolls, fire-and-forget one-shot magic items, etc. will still get used every session. In my slowed-advancement game, my players are *dying*...

    EN World NWN games

...and apparently *is*! I just hopped on NWN and saw that Eric's server is up, but full! Drat!

Houston we have Achieved Orbit around NWN!

It must be an evil plot then, 'cause it's not true. I can verify that Monks and Barbarians do move faster (although Monks don't do so until 3rd level).

Houston we have Achieved Orbit around NWN!

Since I've had the game for a few days, I reallyreallyreally wanted to be the first person in the universe to make NWN: Orc & Pie. I dreamed of having it available to the world for today. I couldn't do it in the end though... ...since there's no pie graphic. *sigh*

Houston we have Achieved Orbit around NWN!

So far the character that I've been playing single player with is a Fight. 3/Sorc. 3, and it's working nicely. I've hired both an NPC Rogue and and NPC Cleric, and what I saw of them in action made we want to play each of those classes big time. You have to see a Cleric turning undead zombies...

Houston we have Achieved Orbit around NWN!

The *public* beta was brief. Bioware/Infogrames internal testing has been going on for years. I've been playing the game for 3 or 4 days, having put probably 20 hours into it sofar, and have yet to encounter a single bug. And it's really fun, too!

    Where's Warcraft D20?

Blizzard has announced that the highly anticipated videogame Warcraft 3 has gone gold, so it should be in stores soon. Long ago WotC had a Warcraft D20 book on their schedule -- it seemed like its release kept getting pushed back as the videogame's release got pushed back. Now it seems to have...

Neverwinter Nights has officially gone gold

Well, that may be your perception, and the perception of your friends. In fact, that's my perception too. But our perception doesn't match up with what most folks in North America think. Infogrames has had trouble branding their own name here, even though everyone knows 'em in Europe, their own...

Neverwinter Nights has officially gone gold

Re: Re: Neverwinter Nights has officially gone gold I have a couple of friends that work for Infogrames US. As I understand it, essentially they've had a lot of problems branding the Infogrames name in North America. However, they recently purchased Atari, which is a very well known brand, and...

[Nobilis] Has Anyone Played This Game?

Good for you! Your Amber-o-meter probably should have gone off, too. I haven't played it, but there are a half-dozen outstanding reviews over at rpg.net that are very in depth, and universally praise the brand-new second edition of this game. I've looked through the book, and it seems pretty...

[Slightly OT] Neverwinter Nights A Failure? [Rant]

I think your interpretation is reasonable. I've been following the development of this game for a long time, and regularly read nwvault.com, plantenw.com, and other game sites. The producers of the game have stated repeatedly a few points: * Many of the developers play and love 3e. * They know...
