I wholeheartedly agree! Anything more than say 30 minutes (with someone guiding the process) is going to be too long. I'm not including time for thinking & writing background stuff for your character.

I have mostly been playing 3.0 well after 3.5 came out. I've found it is better than 3.5. As for what is 3.0 or 3.5 I think the cut off is July 2003. Savage Species was the last 3.0 book IIRC.

Still waiting for the "utterly broken mechanics" in regards to Iron Heroes. I've seen that claim a few times in the thread and I'm interested in know just what they supposedly are.

My group has a dislike for 3.5 as well (overall) and guess which version we are playing...nope, we're not "upgrading" to 3.5 we stayed with 3.0.

"Unedited mess"? Take a look at the Spell Compendium for the definition of "unedited mess". Iron Heroes is steps above many WotC (and non WotC) products when it comes to editing things. Broken Mechanics? Look at the spells in the Spell Compendium! Or some spells in the PHB those are plenty...

Outside of the Players Handbook I wouldn't let anything in without looking at it first. I've seen first hand the damage to a game that can be done if stuff is let in without looking at it first. So I'd ban anything I don't have the ability to look over whenever I want.

I hoping that I get Mastering Iron Heroes & the Bestiary for IH as well. Perhaps give a gaming book to friends.

Meh, I wasn't really into his books before he died though I'm hopeful that this series might actually have an end point and not end up like the book that never ends.
