It doesn't. Well, unless you take a level of Exotic Weapon Master, as pointed out, and the weapon you trip with is an exotic tripping weapon like the Spiked Chain. *Then* it gives a +2 to the opposed check, if you choose that weapon trick or wossname.

Hitting a square with a ranged attack is pretty easy, so if you really want to you could toss a rock or some piece of adventuring equipment into the square. That takes an entire round, though. I'd also say that a ranged attack that hits the target, or a spell that is visual and hits the target...

Well, unless your special mount (or you) have access to a Gate or other reliable means of interplanar travel, I think it's hard to make the special mount into a cohort. This would be entirely dependent on campaign and GM, too.

1. The Hippogriff has an INT of 2 and thus can't be a cohort. 2. A cohort and the Paladin's special mount are two different creatures. One (the cohort) is a creature drawn to you by your charisma but travelling by its own means. The other (the special mount) is summoned from the celestial realms...
