What are the best Planar Bindings?

The Nightmare entry says nothing about the rider being unaffected by the smoke, so I don't think it's such an incredible mount after all. If I were going to have a Nightmare mount, I'd have it de-smoked.

Any DM's not allowing Spiked Chains?

You can cast Spikes and Brambles on it, so yeah.

Generating treasure by type vs no. encountered

This works, but one thing to keep in mind is that concentrating a lot of GP value in loot on one creature can make that creature much more dangerous than its CR indicates if it is able to use the equipment.

    pinpointing invisible opponents

Maybe it sounds a bit silly from a pure rule mechanics perspective, but I find that it makes perfect sense. And it isn't as easy as that makes it sound; many invisible creatures are also flying, and finding out in what general vicinity they are at any one time is the hard part.

Any DM's not allowing Spiked Chains?

I'm curious - what's your beef with riding dogs? So I tend to ban Spiked Chain for two reasons. 1. It's silly. 2. It does everything any other weapon can do. It has reach. It can attack up close. It is finesseable. It is two-handed. It can trip. It gets the disarm bonus. So it's basically all...

    High AC without magic/magic items?

For it to be workable at level 6 you need a level in a class with Tumble as a class skill - you can't get 5 ranks in Tumble if it's cross-class only before level 7.

    1st Level Gestalt for background

Perhaps. I liked the idea, and especially the RP connotations to it - and someone who started out life as a warrior is the most likely kind of person to become a fighter when he goes out and becomes an adventurer. It's a natural combination, so why "punish" players who want this sort of...

That was the example I supplied. The additional line was provided as a joke.

Any DM's not allowing Spiked Chains?

Seans: There was a whole thread on that on the OotS forums, and multiple build examples that would grant the same number of attacks of opportunity (Hold the Line was one example). Plus, as the strip says, Roy didn't do well in the AoO class, so the half-ogre probably just tricked him. ;)

That's a Rogue Special Ability slot, right? Two words: Improved Evasion.

12th level character- check my math, please!

Off the top of my head, I believe that when you double damage including base dice in DnD, you roll the base dice twice and add double the bonus, so it would be 2d12+60, not (1d12+30)x2 Also in the build you mentioned you say you have 5 paladin levels, but you only say you get +4 to damage from...

Why is archery the prefered combat style?

Heh. No. The momentum isn't *used up* sooner. The momentum has nothing to do with it. The only things that matter with regards to the range before something hits the ground are: - angle of launch - velocity at launch - air resistance and its effects on velocity during flight - gravity The...

Why is archery the prefered combat style?

Just to clarify the physics here: This is wrong. Inertia works both ways - an object with high mass will take more energy to get moving... but it will also carry all that energy. There isn't "less energy left over", because all that energy you expended to get the object moving goes somewhere -...

    Most broken prestige classes?

This raises the question: Do Greater Turning attempts count as Turn Undead attempts for the purposes of Divine feats? It is a different ability, after all.

Why is archery the prefered combat style?

Because from a rule mechanics point of view, that would make bows significantly harder to learn than crossbows, so that they cost an extra feat. "Exotic" in DnD is used for weapons like the whip, which is certainly not "exotic" in the dictionary sense of "1. of foreign origin or character; not...

Level Benefits or Class Benefits, which comes first?

Not that I can see, unless there are some class features that depend on feats. I can't think of any, but then I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of all the sourcebooks and splatbooks (where does "splatbook" come from anyway?) out there.

Please, bestone. Hypersmurf has explained his reasoning. This thread is starting to sound like a broken record. Anyone who is in doubt about Sunder can examine the thread and will find no new arguments from either side for the last several pages.

Level Benefits or Class Benefits, which comes first?

There's another way to read the description under the Feat list, and that is that you are allowed to "look ahead" in the Order of Operations and see that you are about to gain a class feature or a spell (the only two steps after Feat on the list) that enables you to gain a feat, and that this...

Level Benefits or Class Benefits, which comes first?

Additionally, the section on "Prerequisites" for feats on page 87 of the PHB says "A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he or she gains the prerequisite." So even if the class feature comes after the feat in the order of leveling events, you can still take the feat the first...
