Do prestige classes count toward XP penalties?

Well.... do they? Any official word?

Sending a Fireball through an arrow slit.

I believe that the spell description states that the fireball bursts if it strikes any barrier between it and its destination. If, then that is how I would rule the situation.

    Haste, should it age you?

In response to LordAO, I don't recall saying that haste should age you. I was simply inquiring about everyone's feelings on haste and asking what I could do to fix it. To all who like to belittle others or not allow room for an opinion from someone else, stay off of my posts. I prefer that...

    Haste, should it age you?

I see all points, but I disagree with aging not being a noticable penalty. The aging penalties add up to quite a knockback in the physical stats... And considering the fact the magical aging grants only the penalties and none of the bonuses, it isn't something to be brushed aside. The reason...

    Haste, should it age you?

What does everyone think about this? Haste in particular begs this question because of its power. In second edition, haste aged you... a considerable drawback. Now there is no drawback yet the spell remains third level. Just curious about how everyone felt about any aging effects being removed...

    Knowledge skills

I think that the knowledge skills are wacked. At a high level, a mage can, according to the rules, answer practically every impossible question about every plane in existence. He basically becomes omnipotent with respect to the planes... and any other subject for which he has taken the skill. I...

    Hardness

ALright, I was wrong. I didn't know that... thanks for the info!

    Vote your favorite Class

I can't chose!!! I would have to say that my favorites are the four basic classes: Wizard, Rogue, Fighter, Cleric. That is close to the order, but the first three are so close that I couldn't really say for sure.

    Hardness

Energy attacks of any type typically bypass hardness. There may be some few exceptions, but I don't know what they would be.

    Shapechange is HOW Epic?

Just about all Special Qualities can be found in the MM. In this case, Page 9 of said MM qualifies DR as supernatural ability and spell resistance as an extraordinary one. Not receiving DR is one of the things that helps to balance Shapechange.

    Shapechange is HOW Epic?

The key to this spell is the "any form the wizard is familiar with". The dungeonmaster should probably define what the term means. Just a tidbit in defense of my favorite spell. Also, limiting it to the wizard's HD would be uncool. Summon Monster VIIII can get a Solar, which has 34 HD.... and...

    Identifying Magic Items

I didn't read all of the replies, but Analyze Dweomer will get you just about everything that the item can do. I do not know if it reveals command words or not. Later!

    Arcane Archer busted?

I didn't mean to start anything here... sorry, guys. In response to a jab by my gaming companion who referred to me as "Taking Dragon magazine as gospel".... Yes, I tend to accept their explanation. The writers at Dragon tend to be level-headed and up-to-date. Also, they have the Sage. These...

    Permanency not very permanent?

Are you guys sure about this? I thought that only Permancies cast on creatures/items other than the caster were dispelled. Permanent effects on the caster are only suppressed. I will read the PHB and get back with you on this...

    Arcane Archer busted?

I am currently gaming with a player who has a fighter/mage/arcane archer/deepwood sniper... I am always thinking that the Arcane Archer may be unbalance. Consider this: The largest drawback, by far, for an archer is the cost of his arrows. An enhancement bonus on a bow doesn't hit monsters with...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Thank you, Anubis. I appreciate a seemingly more intelligent and thoughtful reply. However, I may remind you that the "It kills" was your argument and not mine. It does NOT kill...ever. I admit that it is an easy kill afterwards, but it does not kill on its own. Did the mage in the example not...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Qoute from Anubis The "it doesn't kill" argument is semantic nonsense. That's IDENTICAL to saying guns don't kill people, bleeding kills people. It's an utterly ridiculous statement at best, complete stupidity at worst. If that is the limit of what you can replay with, allow me to expound...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

I agree with the combos, but I can name a hundred others that do not involve Harm yet kill just as quickly. I myself would consider altering Harm if I DM'ed, however my previous post still stands. Harm can NEVER kill anything. That is not small potatoes. Against the lowliest ooze or the most...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

I haven't read all 124 responses to this so I apologize if what I have to say has already been said. Something that nobody seems to mention when it comes to Harm is this simple fact: Harm cannot kill anything. That tidbit is not to be negligently tossed aside. You have a higher level spell...
