Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

I'm not crazy about the pin the foe power having no apparant limits on what it can target. I can't quite see how 3 human fighters, no matter how coordinated, are going to stop a collosal dragon from moving, shifting, or 5' stepping any way it wants to.

    Podcast: Drow Warrior 1 Usefullness

I can't accurately vote in the poll, since I would use both options equally. Drow certainly have foot soldiers, as well as priestesses, assassins, warlocks, and wizards. I'd also use Drow weapon masters, Drow warlords, etc. in addition to the stock warrior 1.

Is heavy armour still the Cinderella?

I played a dwarven defender in battle plate (from races of stone). It took a sphere of annihilation to kill him. Heavy armor let him get his AC up to the mid 40s without defensive stancing, at 19th level. I admit the mithril variants were popular, but I think only because playing a straight...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

It's possible there is an explanation in a section on per encounter and per day powers. Not sure if it will be a good explanation, but that would be a logical place for it, instead of having it under each power.

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Maybe this is being nitpicky about the language choice, but I didn't like that the article says "the two builds are" since this to me means that there's much less customization in character building, since you only have 2 paths of making a rogue (and presumably other characters will have similar...

    WotC_Shoe on leaderless parties

I thought the interesting bit from the blog is that they're considering changing drinking a potion to a minor action instead of a standard action.

    Planetary Romance Resources?

There was a d20 minigame about the planetary romance sub-genre in one of the Polyhedron/Dungeon combo magazines. I don't recall the specific issue, but think it was probably in the 90s around the same time as the Shackled City adventure path. I think it was called Iron Lords of Jupiter. Hope...

    GenCon files Chapter 11

Can someone summarize the whole charity/shafting/Lucasfilm/lawsuit thing for those of us who only know that Gen Con filed for chapter 11? Nevermind - found the other thread - link

D&D 4E New Podcast: New DDM rules and their 4E origins

As for diagonal movement, if you want to keep things simple with every square counting as 1, why not just say no diagonal movement allowed? That way diagonals count as 2 squares, which isn't as accurate as 1.5, but at least preserves that they are longer than non-diagonal movement?

    Backporting the Pit Fiend

I'm not sure why you'd want to convert it to 3.5. I'm strongly leaning towards not converting to 4E, but wouldn't want this in my 3.5 game (maybe as something other than a pit fiend, but certainly not as the same monster it's being presented as.)

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

I'm surprized no one mentioned that the Point of Terror is a fear affect which gives a -5 to all defenses. I'm having trouble seeing how being scared, even REALLY scared, would affect your fort defense. I get that if you're scared you don't defend against physical attacks and don't dodge as...

What are you importing right now?

All I've taken is the new Toughness feat - basically combining the current Toughness and Improved Toughness.

    Chris Sims on the FRCG

Of course Szass Tam is the most powerful necromancer in the realms.....there's no rules for them yet in 4E, so he's the ONLY necromancer! :)

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I agree 100%. This article pretty much confirmed for me that the 4E realms is not a place I want to game in. Not that it will necessarily be bad, but it won't be the realms I've bought every supplement and novel of, and love. They should have left the realms intact and did a 3E style...

    Spell List vs Ritual List

I hope spells like knock AREN'T rituals. I can't tell you the number of times I've had my wizard, or seen one knock open the chains on a prisoner to free them while the rest of the party fought, so we could bust the prisoner out before more guards came, or so the prisoner could give us much...

    Critical Hits: What's Best?

Wow, I'm shocked at the dominance of the 4E crit support. As for my other vote: I like the confirmation roll, since it allows more skilled combatants to crit more than less skilled ones, and also avoids the I miss or I crit, and can't hit otherwise. As for damage, I'd prefer roll damage as...

Sage Advice: How much does the D&D Insider subscription cost?

Exactly! And I might want the opposite, since I'm not at all impressed so far by the digital previews of the magazines. Or maybe I just want the chatacter generator, or only the mapping tool, or maybe only one of the magazines?

Not if you subscribed to both magazines.....
