The Keith Baker *Kudos* Thread- No trolls.

I was initially only curious about the results of the search, but the snippets now have me looking forward to seeing what he's come up with. WotC had a 100-page document to judge his world by, and they went with it despite some at the company reportedly being worried that it might be too...

Things that have bugged you since 1E

It's always bugged me that the only official clergy for sophisticated mainstream religions is the cleric class, though I can get my mind around pagan religions having their own versions of the crusader military orders as a subset of the priesthood. When I think of an Egyptian priest I think of a...

Um... Look inside, DnD image theft...

Those character cover sheets that Arnie Swekel and Glen Angus are selling -- which were previewed on the last pages Dragon #301 and #302-- featur artwork done for various D&D books, including uncolored versions of several of the gods from Deities & Demigods and the illustration from the cover of...

3.5 and level 1 multiclass (apprentice) characters

Playing out 1st level then multiclassing at 2nd just strains my credibility in most cases, unless the campaign conveniently provides a life-changing experience or long period of training at the end of level one. With the apprentice level there's less of a problem with the character suddenly...

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

I'll second (or, really, third) this. I'm sure Mr. Baker is willing to answer criticisms of his setting, but it must be frustrating to not be able to counter criticisms of other people's versions of his setting because he can't release information. I still can't work out what he's done to...

    Diceless, paperless D&D

Often I suspect that our DM's signature all-purpose d% rolls are simply to fill the empty space while he just decides what happens, so we may be close to this sort of thing at times. I can think of one thing from our non-miniatures combats that could be elaborated on for a diceless game. I'm...

    2003 ENnie winners announced!!!

EN World itself (but not, I believe, it's hosted sites) and E.N. Publishing (and thus Ambient and Natural 20) weren't eligible to because of the appearance of conflict of interest. Or at least they weren't entered because of it, whether or not its actually written into the rules that they can't.

    2003 ENnie winners announced!!!

Congratulations! I'm particularly pleased that Privateer and Expeditious Retreat did so well, but it's also great to see such an interesting set of winners overall.

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

Here are the guidelines WotC laid out: "Wizards of the Coast, Inc. is searching for proposals for a new fantasy setting (“Fantasy Setting Search”). Such a setting may serve as a vehicle for novels, roleplaying games, card games, miniatures, and other entertainment products. In scope and flavor...

WotC setting search winner - Eberron

How? As WotC said at the time, it was a setting search, not a contest. The procedures might have resembled those of a contest, but the final three didn't get prize money, they got a contract to write a 100 page document that WoTC would own. They were being paid for the setting and their work as...

    The Paladin's Code...and TIME TRAVEL!

I'd say no, because the evildoer has probably had enough of an effect on circumstances and the behavior patterns of people (both when he was and wasn't doing evil) that killing him in the past will cause a number of people who are entirely innocent to never have been born. I suppose you could...

PH proper names in non-GH campaigns

Both our games use the non-human gods in the PHB, just because the 1e Deities & Demigods and Unearthed Arcana are the sources for most of the religions. In one of the games it's at least possible that a player could pick one of the Greyhawk gods (or from FR some other world), as the gods are...

Are you going to play 3.0 or 3.5?

I suppose on balance our games will be 3.5, since the amount of houserules, 3rd party, and possibly Modern stuff will equal or pass the 3.0 holdovers. At least for the PHB-related rules, I'm not sure how much of the new MM is going to be incorporated.

[3.5] I have combined the SRD into nice PDF files (Updated)

Thanks for doing this, this is much more pleasant to read. One thing though, I believe that even for a straight reformatting of the SRD, you should have a copy of the OGL in the individual files. If I remember correctly, when the modern SRD was compiled into a PDF, Andy from WotC came by and...

    The New Character Sheet

Thanks for the sheets, Ashrem Bayle, they're quite nice. It's hard for me to break the notebook paper habit, but I have some friends who could use them. For those who don't read the news page, you can find the automated sheet put up on the WotC boards here .

    SRD Legal Changes

The 3.0 SRD was just "Copyright 2000", it also had four less authors listed. There's an active discussion of this subject on the publisher's board: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57819

    Unearthed Arcana semi-officially confirmed

Paizo is publishing the magazines under a license, the Dragon and Dungeon trademarks are still owned by WoTC, and it still says "©2002 Wizards of the Coast, Inc." on the contents page.

I don't know if this is funny, scary, or sad...

It's a bit too long to quote here, but be sure to check out his section on "Changing Classes" in the 4th edition rules.
