    PHB gods

Grim, That sounds almost like Kalamar. Not quite, since I don't think KoK uses the Greek / Roman names, but similar. In Kalamar, each god has about a half-dozen titles but no name per se. Each culture calls each god by a different title. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread ...

    [OT] Megatokyo?

Megatokyo is great. It's one of a score (well, nineteen) webcomics I read on a daily basis.

    The Lich (Origins)

So lich (an undead sorcerer) lich (is similar to) lich (a corpse)? Now that *is* interesting. I suppose I already knew that lich lich lich, but not quite in those words.

    PHB gods

I think the gods from the PHB are perfectly fine for a campaign, and in fact they get used with little to no changes in most of the campaigns my group runs. Except for me, of course. In the mini-campaign I run, I use seven homebrew gods: Corruption, Rulership, Healing, War, Sun, Moon, and...

Throwing a gem to a friend?

I'd make it a ranged attack for the Paladin (throwing things and hitting a target is exactly what BAB is for) and a Dex check for the Rogue. If they fail, then the scatter diagram on page 138 of the PHB can come into play.

Psion "learning" from a Power Stone?

Look on page 9 under Powers. Your Psion still has to wait until third level to learn the power (you "discover" it from the power stone instead of on your own), but (!) you can learn a Psychic Warrior power in this manner. So if the stone happens to contain the Hustle ability, a first-level...

Throwing a gem to a friend?

That I do not know. But as a DM, my general guideline is this: "When in doubt, DC 15."

Question about concentration and spell duration

You are correct. Point out to your DM that: Period. No other qualifiers, no 'sometimes', it always lasts for as long as you concentrate on it. The description then goes on to explain what concentration means, and what you can or cannot do while concentrating. It then says: That's the...

    Dimensional anchor question

It all depends on whether a gate can be considered an 'object'. Personally, I would say no. Not only is it the manifestation of a spell rather than a normal object, it's a hole through reality - an absence rather than a presence. So far as I can tell, a dimensional anchor could be cast as...

    Mage Knight as miniatures?

I thought about using them when they first came out - the pre-painted aspect is a big perk for me since I never get around to painting the unpainted miniatures I have - but I concluded that the bases were too large for use as D&D miniatures. Of course, you could always rip them off the bases...

Writing a spell in a spellbook

The rules you're thinking of, Hatchling, are in Magic of Faerun. A very nice system, and one of the best (IMO) sections of that book.

    Major Otiluke's Resilient Sphere issues

I agree that the weight of the sphere is the total weight of its contents. Since nothing can pass through the sphere, neither can air - but with a duration of one minute per foot diameter of the sphere, I'm pretty sure the sphere contains enough air for the occupant(s) to breathe for the...

Writing a spell in a spellbook

Your example assumes that wizards must use scrolls to scribe their spells. However, wizards can easily share their spellbooks with each other, 'trading' spells as it were, and copying the spells from other spellbooks into their own. Doing so negates the cost of the scroll, requiring only the...

    OA Weapons Help

Hmm, you're quite correct. That is tricky. Have you checked errata? I would probably just use the stats for a Siangham and a Short Sword or Wakizashi or Ninja-to, giving it a bonus to remain undetected (if someone is searching you for weapons).

    Clarification: magic item usage

That all looks correct offhand. Mind you that for that scroll, your wizard may need to make a Spellcraft check if the scroll contains a spell of higher level than he can cast. Note that very very few items actually require the user to be of a specific race or class, so it's unlikely you'll...

    The Lich (Origins)

Hmm While I'm not familiar with the original 1E Monster Manual (before my time), I do know that the Demilich appeared in the Monster Manual II. Thus, I think it's a safe assumption that the Lich was in AD&D from the start (not sure about Original D&D though). The GURPs quote above seems to...

    High level adventures

Daughter of Lolth My group doesn't use very many modules, so I can't help you much, but we did run one high-level adventure that was pretty fun. It was from a recent (well, not very recent) issue of Dungeon, the one that came out at the same time as the Drow-themed issue of Dragon. The...

    Most Powerful Phb Race!

Super-Vision It seems to me that low-light vision isn't really that powerful. Sure, you can see twice as far under certain lighting conditions (less than full light, but not completely dark), but the ability rarely seems to come into play. Most encounters are at fairly close range. My...

    Dragon Skills

Not a typo. Monsters in general never get quadruple skill points for their first hit die. In fact, skill points for most monsters works a little strangely - magical beasts, for example, start with double their Intelligence score in skill points, +1 per EHD (almost, but not quite, the same as...

    Dragon Skills

I suppose. Whenever creating a creature who gained Intelligence along the way (NPC Wizards in particular), I always *have* gone back and corrected for the Int gain instead of just granting retroactive skill points. It's much less work than it seems like. But laziness wins over all.
