Because trying to run me through the ringer by accusing me of doing something and then roelplaying out a hypothetical situation to an imaginary scenario as proof to one side or the other of what you're trying to force into an argument is ridiculous.

Do you not see how every game of D&D isn't going to have this setup? Or that maybe the new character has information the group needs, knows how to find a thing, can introduce them to a person, has the same enemies, or one of a million other uses that don't boil down to what their stats are or...

I edited my post poorly, in trimming down I removed a third option "find different people to play with". Those last two weren't meant as quotes of what you were saying, they were other common suggestions as to how people "fix" a hypothetical player. "Doing A, B, or C aren't always the best or...

Nobody suggested that anyone should antagonistically or dickishly withhold XP or punish a player, you added that bit, maybe accidentally. There are lots of ways to communicate, and "talking to the player" or "changing the game to suit the player" aren't always the best, or easiest ways to do it.

It might be better to avoid adopting an "us vs them" stance about this. You're talking about a lot of different people and a lot of different games, and pointing to one person and saying "why does your side have conflicting and contradicting viewpoints, that's dumb" is a generalization that...

In addition to that, I'd say that the following situations: are not situations that a "new characters at first level" world would usually frame. Not every D&D group introduces new characters as new hires or employees, and not every group will weigh a characters' worth by how well they stand...

I read what he said not as "you are incapable of coming up with a situation where XP is NOT a reward" but instead as "sometimes people get rewarded for doing nothing, and there's no other way to look at it." I definitely disagree with the first statement, but the second is something I've seen...
