Satanic Panic of the late 80's

Yeah, it didn't start with D&D and it's never really gone away, it just changes its target every couple of years. Anton Lavey begat modern Satanism whose rise tangentially begat The Exorcist. Throughout the same period several cults and death cults and suicide cults flourished and ended...

Satanic Panic of the late 80's

After introducing me to the game, and encouraging me to start playing it as a summer program in elementary school, my parents (full on because of the local PTA) fell prey to the Satanic Panic and confiscated all of my D&D stuff in middle school. Throughout high school I was more worried about...

    A question about time travel

I'm not quite sure where you think the paradox lies in that statement. If you're dealing with an infinite set, an infinite order of magnitude larger or smaller is still infinite. As Umbran was saying to me before, the specks and motes travelling back and forth between the many worlds aren't...

    A question about time travel

Oh no, I totally understand. I'm saying that as a scripting plot point and not as a matter of theoretical physics, the only way to make it work is to invent a story element that ignores and rewrites the rules that you've set in place about how the world works.

    A question about time travel

Well there is no changing the past unless you invent an event that "broke" the rules and damaged or destroyed all of the possible worlds and collapsed them down into a singularity.

Looking for a particular online dice roller

I really really love 3D Dice (Get Dice 3D 7pixels - Microsoft Store) and it will allow you to roll dice of different colors.

#1 can it only exist as a phone application? #2 does it have to be shared view?

How deadly do you like your game (as a player or DM)?

As a GM, though I used to fall heavily on the side of games appearing to be deadly, but behind the screen things were secretly in the players' favors; nowadays I'm a much bigger proponent of games with a Death Flag mechanic built into them. Something where the characters aren't in danger of...

    Modern Games (Cops and reality)

I am not normally a follower of Canadian politics, but a very cursory internet search would suggest that just maybe there are some news stories that you have missed over the last decade or so.

Anyone ever played a game with two linked groups?

I played in a ...I think it was a DC Heroes campaign where there was another group playing a team of villains and every other week the other group would play and impact the opposite group. The plan was for the groups to eventually duke it out, but the game fell apart well before the final...

    Modern Games (Cops and reality)

You know what, I hadn't thought about LARPs. I was in a Vampire/Werewolf LARP in the late 90s that frequently dabbled in current events.

    Modern Games (Cops and reality)

I think there's also something to be said about having the option to play out the fantasy. The wounds are still fresh and there might not be a desire to, but there's no reason why the police in your game couldn't 100% be a shining bulwark of incorruptible decency.

    Modern Games (Cops and reality)

The closest I have ever come to this was an... I think an In Nomine game back in college where the GM based the world off of whatever the current edition of the Weekly World News stated was reality. Aside from that, I was friends with a lot of miniature wargamers who had a habit of playing out...

Worldbuilding: How far should things be?

This is one of the things I like so much about Torchbearer. Encumbrance, endurance, rations, light sources, money, everything gets abstracted and worked into its own mini game.

    Powered by Apocalypse

Band of Blades is a Blades in the Dark descendant. It's a grimdark military campaign about the tattered remnants of The Legion, retreating from a final, last ditch effort to destroy the Cinder King and his army of the undead. Players play 3+ characters over the course of the game. They each...

Worldbuilding: How far should things be?

I know that people have already made a lot of these same points, but I'm going to just vomit them out stream of consciousness-like so that I don't interrupt the flow. Why are the settlements there in the first place? Are they on top of a natural resources? Is the area naturally defendable...

I Made a Virtual Dread Tool

Hey! We're sitting on a working final version. Updates since the last post are: 10/31/2020 Added user information to the GM logs to prevent griefing Added player/character/roles of other players to each char sheet Made player notes look like a piece of paper Forced...

I Made a Virtual Dread Tool

Spent last night and this morning doing a final push. I think that I'm essentially at the last version of things, but the program should be totally usable to run a game. 10/30/2020 Added a scatter of "fallen blocks" when the tower falls. Not sure if I 100% like it yet. Cosmetically I might...
