Will this "attack combo" work (kinda Smack-downish)

Re: Re: Spell resistance? Cold immunity? Okay... it never occurred to me to model elemental resistance after damage resistance w/ respect to sneak attacks. Thanks... that helps. And thanks for the confirmation, Darklone. :) -AK

Will this "attack combo" work (kinda Smack-downish)

Spell resistance? Cold immunity? Couple of questions on a related topic... If you're sneak attacking with a ray of frost against a creature with spell resistance, and you succeed on the ranged touch attack, but fail to beat the spell resistance check, do you still get the sneak attack damage...

Will this "attack combo" work (kinda Smack-downish)

I don't agree with that one. Mages are proficient with the quarterstaff, which is 2-handed for medium-sized characters, and they're always lifting a hand to cast spells. I don't recall if it's written anywhere official, but I've always seen it played as a free action to lift or replace a hand on...

What happens when a wizard loses a hand?

I thought about that one, too. It would depend on the guy's race. Hand of Glory requires a human hand, and Hand of the Mage requires an elven hand. Maybe he's a half-elf, and can make one of each. :) He could only wear one at a time, though. (Unless he has two necks? :D) -AK

    Spell Mastery Questions

Regrettably, it's no on all counts. No swapping mastered spells, no "banking" mastered spell slots, no changes for intelligence fluctuations. As you're probably aware, you can take Spell Mastery again for a new group of spells. It even qualifies for the "bonus" feat a wizard gets every 5...

What happens when a wizard loses a hand?

Re: Re: Re: What happens when a wizard loses a hand? You had me wondering for a second, there... I checked the SRD to make sure. It's 2 total. It doesn't specify that it has to be one per hand, and I'm sure there's some rules nuts who will insist that since it doesn't say so, it ain't so...

What happens when a wizard loses a hand?

I'd say he no longer has an off hand, so no two-weapon fighting, no large weapons (assuming he's medium-sized), no wielding a weapon two-handed, no magic gloves that require the pair for the magic to function, can only wear one ring , etc. I'd let him wear a pair of bracers, though. If his...

What's the most usefull non-combat item!?

Huh huh. Orco42's pitching a tent in his cloak. Huh huh. My vote's for that Ring of Sustenance... no need to carry food or water, only need 1/4th as much sleep... especially useful for spell casters. -AK

    Summon Familiar question

Responding as a reader who can follow directions... I'd have to say, "Yes." :D For a more useful response... A Sor/Wiz multi could have lots of familiars. However, under the core rules, he can only have one at a time. There's penalties for losing the previous familiar, though. ;) -AK

activation of a glove of storing...

Oh, wow... never occurred to me. This has some potential. A wizard takes a big, nasty weapon, casts every boosting spell he's got on it (finishing with "true strike"), and pops it into a glove of storing. Proficiency with the weapon would be nice, but with the +20 from T.S., proficiency...

Need some clarification on Scribe Scroll

Not entirely on-topic. Actually, not-at-all on-topic. Thanks, Not-Sean. Wish I could claim credit for it, 'cuz I like it, too. Just spreadin' the word. So how's things over there in Useless, Tx, neighbor? ;) -AK

Need some clarification on Scribe Scroll

No mention of rolled items? Did you happen to check which section of the DMG you're reading? The section on magic item creation has nothing about the player not getting what they're making. A perfectly legitimate house rule. Taking the item creation feat is what gives them the knowledge...

Mobility + Bull Rush + AoO

By the rules, the defender can't take more than one AoO against a single combatant in a round, anyway. There is no second AoO. AK

Are Expertise and Fighting Defensively Stackable?

Give him 5 or more ranks of tumble, and you can bump those AC's up another point... AC +12 (+5 (expertise) +3 (fight def.) + 4 (mobility) ), Att -9 (-5 (expertise) -4(fight def.) ) Does full-defense (edit: make that "total defense". Thanks, Art.) (as opposed to fight def.) count as an...

Pitiful Monk, your speed impresses me not.

Having your cake and eating it too. The ER spell desc. says it doubles your speed, with no qualifiers in that sentence. There's another sentence that mentions fleetness of foot, which looks like "flavor text" to most of us... but, apparently not all. If you must have a literal interpretation...

    Takeing 10 on D.D.

If you make "taking 10" too difficult, the player could always opt for the "skill mastery" special ability after level 10. It lets a rogue take ten, even if he's threatened or distracted, for a select number of skills. A must-have for any skills-based rogue (as opposed to a battle-rogue, et...

    [troll]ranger's dual wielding goodness...

Dunno... I've always thought of wands as more of a bludgeoning weapon. PHB says it's "just a stick", so I suppose it could be either blunt or piercing. The blunt version has the advantage of falling into the simple weapons category (a club), so proficiency wouldn't be an issue. However, the...

    Longspear in Glove of Storing?

*snap* - and the backpack is gone... and everything that used to be in the backpack tumbles to the floor in a jumbled pile. The description is pretty explicit about the glove of storing being able to store a single item. I'll grant that a spear is made of multiple components (shaft, head)...
