Dragonlance Joe Manganelio is Writing the D&D Movie? And Is it DRAGONLANCE?

I realise this was firmly tongue-in-cheek but I could see a Dark Sun movie working: start with Borys and the Cleansing Wars, then fade to "Tyr, 2,000 years later". Even GRRM doesn't start with the extinction of multiple sentient races during the opening credits. Game of Thrones meets Mad Max...

D&D 5E Oh god, not goblins again...

That's the opening of the Critical Hits review of SKT, and I have to admit it touches a nerve. We started our campaign with "Temple of the Nightbringers" by M T Black, which was recommended somewhere (possibly on here) as a good introduction for players new to D&D. It went well. However, it...

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Would you consider that a spoiler? I'm happy to change it if you're serious but I don't say anything about what the plan is (or even whose 'side' Iymrith is on). Most of the major NPCs have plans, including the giant lords, the daughters, the dragons and Slarkrethel. And Iymrith doesn't even...

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Yeah, I was already planning to replace these guys with a crew of enthusiastic kobolds; I'm pretty sure my party wouldn't trust the cult either...

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Good catch - I'd completely forgotten that. But from the way that's written (p227 of SKT, "Because she has become desperate,") it sounds to me like that's something that happens in the later stages of the campaign, not something she based her original plan on.

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Now *there's* an idea - thanks, I think I'll try that. I may even see if I can splice Hoard of the Dragon Queen together with SKT, although I haven't read it so don't know if that would work (so any thoughts on that would be very welcome too).

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Ah, I somehow missed that - thanks (I'm a recent refugee from 2e; still catching up on the bit in between....) I assume there are still ways for the gods to indicate really important things to their worshippers other than physically manifesting, though - visions, strange portents, etc...

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

WARNING: Spoilers for Storm King's Thunder below (I'm afraid I haven't worked out yet how to format spoilers on this forum; advice on this appreciated). Iymrith's plan in SKT, as presented, is to trigger a war between the giants and the 'small folk', particularly the Lord's Alliance, thereby...

All New Paranoia Pre-Orders Later This Month

Thank The Computer for that! I've just joined a new group that's never played Paranoia before; I've been trying to locate my old 2e books but this will do perfectly (muhaha).

List of existing teleportation circles in FR cities?

Ah, I see. Makes sense, to be honest! I'd be interested to hear how you've expanded it - we're just starting SKT.

List of existing teleportation circles in FR cities?

Was that a typo, or is there a tie-in novel or something to SKT coming that I wasn't aware of? I know these teleportation circles are described in SKT.

What are you reading? [March 2017]

Currently re-reading "The City and The City" by China Miéville. I've read most of his stuff and I find him pretty hit-and-miss (I liked The Scar, Perdido St Station and most of the short fiction in Looking for Jake; I hated Embassytown and Kraken, and I was ambivalent about Iron Council) but...

    D&D 5E Your one hope for D&D?

I was actually wondering recently about borrowing the "Awakening" idea from Shadowrun (and, I gather, from Earthdawn - which might match this idea more closely, but I never got to read any of the Earthdawn books) as a setting concept: magic and nonhuman races suddenly begin to appear, rapidly...

    D&D 5E Your one hope for D&D?

I'd like the next 5e campaign to be a Spelljammer one. Starting by taking PCs from Faerun to the Rock of Bral, culminating on The Spelljammer. Neogi deathspiders, some clockwork horrors, some nautiloids, maybe a witchlight marauder or two. :D

    D&D 5E Lingering Wounds Revamped

Very nice - I might use some of those in a planned piracy-themed campaign! There was also an article on magical prostheses in an old issue of Dragon magazine; I'll see if I can dig it out (somewhere in the 230-250 range, I think). The only ones I can remember off-hand were an eye of...

D&D 5E Save Your Campaign with the Tomb of Horror

Rather than a straightforward Groundhog Day approach, what about using the plot of Algis Budrys' Rogue Moon for inspiration: essentially every time the PCs 'die' a back-up clone is teleported in (not quite how it works in the book, but you don't want to rerun the same bits a hundred times)...

    Tiefling airship pirate?

I'm in a 9th-level 5e campaign and the DM has given us the chance to change characters in a few sessions. Although we're having great fun I've had more near-death experiences than every other character put together, and (for reasons) *any* magic is currently extremely unreliable in this...

    D&D 5E Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

    Fantastic - thanks!

    D&D 5E Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

That reminds me - my party is currently level 2, doing various small quests around the Triboar area and was going to set off to Nightstone in a session or two, but they're mostly new players and seem to be enjoying the low levels so I don't want to zoom up levels too quickly. Does anyone...

    D&D General Welcome Thread

Hi everyone! I've been lurking here a while but finally got around to registering. I used to DM back in 2e (plus some other systems - the ones I enjoyed most were Call of Cthulhu, Paranoia, Shadowrun and WHFRP) then had a long break from D&D when we all split up for university; I've been sucked...
