When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

So, let me ask is there a segment of player out there that has at some point, when they were on board with coastwizards and their products, bought every new book as it came out and tried to integrate it into their own game? That seems rather ambitious and completely opposite from the way we...

Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

first off, everyone's players should be perfect next, i DO see what you mean about the in-battle flavor of the fight. The pushes and pulls and slides and whatnot. My perfect players, though, have been doing this all along in all editions, mainly because we all thought the idea of a player and...

    I think I figured out 4th ed

I don't recall changing any balance. All I said was plenty of times I have been in 1st level games, as a fighter, and early on the wizard gets hit one time and he is dead, then thief takes a stiff shot and down he goes, and before I (the fighter) can kill the bad guys, half the party is dead...

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

I can't help but notice you didnt really answer my question can you pass along the titles of these? yes, very Dr. Lazarus getting back on topic, the notion that the opinions of message board die-hard players means anything at all to the shareholders / board of directors of hasbro Inc is...

    Were MM1 monsters truly underpowered?

I will keep an eye out for this unbalance thing that everyone seems to be tweaking about. three things I will do to try nip it in the bud are: -less rest for the party, and make them aware of that fact (sometimes the threat alone is enough to stop using dailies and ap in every fight) -use...

    Were MM1 monsters truly underpowered?

and my point of view is that a monster with a 20 str should do more damage with an axe than a monster with a 12, and it is NOT "baked in" that way. Simple fix on my end.

Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

no it isn't, FAR from it, in fact, it is my belief that 4e give the characters WAY LESS license that every before I have never had that problem, usually at my table, the players never want to bypass anything, if the DM says, ok, blah blah blah this is the adventure, and the players say we...

    Were MM1 monsters truly underpowered?

really? isn't the players damage based on a formula too?

If you have played 3.5e regularly within the past 5 years, what are you playing now?

we took a break from rpg all together, we did some axis and allies, and a few other things, mostly because the game was getting stale ( and it would have been whatever system we were playing, it jsut happened to be 3.5) and absenteeism began to be a problem. I'm not sure, a couple of months ago...

    I think I figured out 4th ed

well certainly to each their own I've been the fighter waiting for the theif and mage to make new characters - and end up watching the game or whatever non-role-playing task can be found to do. - just my point of view

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

I don't mean to crap on anyone's parade, but why would anybody care even in the slightest if there is a split in the fan base?????????? How could that possibly affect your gaming experience ???????

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

How do you know it "is just not D&D aymore" ??? after all, you animately say you did not buy 4e - I must assume that means you didn't buy any 4e books, right?

Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

ok, I'd ask the player to explain how it happens, describe the action..."it's on my sheet" doesn't explain jack! Now if the player comes up with some creative narrative or even something funny that everyone busts a gut laughing about, then maybe it does happen. I let my players get away with...

How is the Wizard vs Warrior Balance Problem Handled in Fantasy Literature?

i can't help ya - we're only 3rd level one thing I do make the guys do is say everything that is going to happen BEFORE they do it. I hate the ... "oh, wait, I rolled a 1, but this ___ happens" there is a vid on youtube that maybe everyone has seen of Chris Perkins DMing for Acquisitions INc...

Something, I think, Every GM/DM Should Read

I agree with both you and the article. I don't have it in front of me, but the 1e and 2e rule books all have a paragraph in the beginning that reads(paraphrase) these are just guidelines, feel free to change them to fit your game

    Actually, our opinion does matter.

I saw posted upthread a few numbers and I want to throw out a few more to revisit my point that coastwizards has little to zero interest in our (message board die hards fans) opinion. Let's say you took the top 10 d&d themed message boards and counted all the regular posters, and even the...

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

instead of starting a new thread, I will ask this question here. Q: What if Hasbro cut coastwizards tomorrow, simply announced that the entire line would be scrapped. How would that affect your gaming? my answer: not one bit. There is plenty of 4E material out to keep me n my group busy for...

What fake gaming terminology does your group use?

another one that's always a hit, whenever you want to try to use magic on a party member thats hesitant...usually because he is a dwarf or barbarian or any reason why he might have second thoughts, the guy who thinks up the plan will say "drink the milk" in reference to Mr.T in the A-Team when...
