When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

ok, I am going with some assumptions that coul dbe wrong, so correct as needed, but... WotC is actually owned by Hasbro Hasbro is a publicly traded company therefore the team of folk at the offices of Coastwizards that are owned by Hasbro have only two choices: Make Money or die tryin...

Do you use PC races as monsters?

i know there is human rabble, and i think the dwarf one is thug, but you can make minions out of each race, i am sure, I mean The Joker and The Penguin never had a shortage of "bad guys". Isn't there also ruffians for each race too? like a level 1or2 "monster" ???

Why CompoundWord Monsters Don't Bother Me

I suck at naming things (towns, items, characters, anything ) so its hard for me to mock coastwizards at least they are naming them something.

Why CompoundWord Monsters Don't Bother Me

We still use a home brewed monster to this day created about 20 years ago that we still call (named) bird-thingys Names are nothing to get in a twist over

A triple encounter? oh yes indeed!

I would throw more at them, especially in part 1-maybe less minions and a lieutenant. Looking at the make up of the party, they kinda seem designed for minion-busting anyway. I like the traps though. part two - again, me personally, I am not a fan of 1 boss and the rest minions...I like having...

The Problem of DDI...Solved! (Well, not really)

all good points, and with that said, I'd like to point out the very obvious fact: it's cool to have a guy at your table with a lot of discretionary income -jus sayin

    I think I figured out 4th ed

Yeah, I should have been more clear. I wasn't trying to insult people who like lower level adventures, my point was simply that 4E eliminates the first 4 levels of adventuring, and I hadn't seen it put that way (because, I'm sure i hadn't looked hard enough )

    I think I figured out 4th ed

we play on monday nights, so last night we were wrapping up and just discussing the variety of hatred for 4th Ed on this and other message boards. One of our group made the perfect, crystal clear point which I will now steal and/or butcher: in early editions of D&D it was difficult to have...

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

again, I don't want to sound like the old codger ... "back in my day sonny..." but the bottom line you have to ask yourself is this: Do you still have playing? if yes, awesome! if no, what can you as a group do to make it more fun...if you don't like a new rule...change it...if you think a new...

    Tactical Encounter Problems

lots of good ideas, to be sure let me take a different position Why penalize the players? I mean if they come up with a good plan, even if it is kinda obvious, they shouldn't be penalized. I don't know how many encounters I have thought were going to be very challenging, only to see the...

    doesn't anyone play low-tech anymore?

when I am DM, I do a lot of the prep work at the computer, no question, but rarely if ever do i even turn on the lap top at the table. As a player, I spend a lot of time reading the books, trying to formulate my plan for when next we level up. (We split up a lot as a group - kind of a perk...

    This is my Elemental Airship.

I think I am in the minority, and that is a shame, but I have little clue why you seem to be complaining about some of the rules that have been added. I want to try and hit all your points, but first let me say I spend about .45 cents a month on D&D and judging by how bent you are about mini's...

    doesn't anyone play low-tech anymore?

I know I am old, and old fashioned, and an old dog that can't learn many new tricks, but my game that's been running for nearly 30 years still uses paper and pencils. We use those big sheets of 1" grid paper on the easels (layed flat on the table), we have the same 200 or so miniatures we have...

The Problem of DDI...Solved! (Well, not really)

there were many many keygens around for the character builder. Here is the thing I don't quite understand...is it really so hard to use a blank sheet and a pencil? I am not trying to upset anybody, but is it possible that maybe a bigger deal is being made of this than needs be?

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

Again, I apologize for not being up to speed with the rest of this, but what is a "monster builder". Also, would mm1,2&3 on pdf be considered a compendium?

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

when they "make" all their novelist advance the storylines 100 years into the future..... that has leather jacket and water skis written all over it

    Recovering ammunition?

I also figure ammo is "unlimited". Especially if you are fighting humanoid monsters alot, that have a chance to be carrying the same ammo, you gotta figure the players pick it up and add it to their quantities too.

Points of Light - replacement for random encounters

let's pretend I am not as advanced as everyone else --what is 'NOVA' ??? next, I agree with Andy 3K. You can plan an encounter that seems random, or sometimes, I will even plan a set of three encounters and use that as a wandering monster chart, but for me, everything is usually prepped.

    South of Nentir Vale?

so basically we are no closer to an answer also - I have to admit I am kinda glad that other players are waiting for this info too. I thought I was just behind the times so to speak. My group has only recently made the jump to 4E. (We're old dogs, don't even ask how long we kept playing 2E...

    Too many players!

split the group if you are able to, have two separate campaigns in the same setting. My game doesn't have this luxury, but if you can play on separate nights, perfect! Then, once in a while as a "special edition" you could have crossovers for something different.
