    Ring of Counterspells, Area-effect spells

How about reading the rules about "Aiming a Spell"? This section defines exactly what a target is and is not. The underlined areas are the most relevant. This is both in the SRD and on page 175-6 of the PHB.

Divine Champion from FR - is it worth it?

Unless the PrC was changed in the PGtF, a paladin multi-classing into it would not be able to continue to advance as a paladin later. For this reason, it may not be worth multi-calssing into for your character, but only you can decide that.

Casting spells right out of your spellbook

Actually it was an optional rule from the Complete Book of Wizards (2nd Edition). The spell in the spellbook would be read as a scroll and then be removed from the book. There was also a fairly likely posibility that the spell preceding or following the spell used would be 'consumed' in the...

    Throwing a spear - Still full-round action?

It takes a full round action to throw a spear (shortspear in 3.0) if you are a meduim creature. It takes a full round action to do a full attack. Since you can't do 2 full round actions in a single round, the answer is no. When wildshaped into a large ape, the two-handed weapon becomes a...

Readied Actions - I can't believe after three years we are still confused over this!!

PHB p 160 under 'Readying an Action': "You can ready a standard action, a move action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions you will take it." So you must specify that you are readying an action to counter spell and what conditions will trigger the...

    Some questions on Lycanthropes

It appears from the text in the MM, that your wererat would have 3 attacks. A primary melee (BAB +6), a secondary melee (BAB +1), and a bite (BAB +1) When it talks about normal ability scores it is refering to the base creature, but using the adjustments of the base animal when in animal form...

Readied Actions - I can't believe after three years we are still confused over this!!

Look at page 141 of the PHB. Charge is listed under full round actions and has the notation of 5 next to it. This notation says, "May be taken as a standard action if you are limited to taking only a single action in a round." Since the character is not limited to taking only a single action...

Help me swing my players away from clerics

Most of the time requireing all divine spellcasters to worship a specific deity does the trick. It limits domains to a small list rather than allowing a cleric to choose any two they decide they like. It does sound as if they are already using gods, though. Now, I'd like to hear more about how...

An [Evil] Holy Warrior? Negitive level issues...

Well, in the rules there is never any damage associated with using a weapon aligned differently from the user. That was something in 1st and 2nd editions and only then applied to intelligent weapons. Now for your question, yes, your character will gain negative levels due to having the [evil]...

    Clerics? Pontificate!

I chose balanced, because a cleric will never know when a situation will arrise when he's needed to fill another roll. I happen to play in the Living Greyhawk RPGA campaign and have a cleric. This cleric fills the roll of tank in the group I game with the most, but when playing online or at...

    D&D 4E Betting on 4e

The item on the Skullport site is NOT a fake press release, it is a FAKE Associated Press news article.

    Turning undead

The ability to destroy undead is not an attempt to turn, rebuke or bolster. It is the effect after a successful turn attempt. A 6th level cleric must roll at least a 7-9 on table 8-9 (pg 159 of the PHB) and would still need to allocate 5 from the turning damage roll. Once this is done, the...

    Turning undead

I'm looking at the rules on page 159 of the PHB and I don't see where it says anywhere that bolstering or turn resistance affect anything besides the turn check. Destroying or Commanding undead is based solely on the creatures hit dice, not hit dice + bolstering + turn resistance. Checking page...

New Company Needs Help with Name Take 2

How about Meat Shields R Pretty... MSRP for short. :) Use a pretty boy with a stupid grin for a logo. The Jauxer (sp?) character from the Xena show pops into mind almost instantly.

    Bluff or Spellcraft check?

This is how I'd do it. Use this or not as you will. :) The Psion would roll his Knowledge (Arcana) modified by his Charisma bonus. The viewing character woudl roll Knowledge (Arcana) modified by his Wisdom Bonus. I would also allow any character with 5 or more ranks of Spellcraft to get a +2...

If you don't need to sleep, do you get tired?

Clerics have never needed rest inorder to prepare spells. They must meditate for 1 hour at the appropriate time of day, though. A Thri-Kreen Wizard, otoh, must have rest before preparing spells. What exactly constitutes rest is entirely up to the DM for races that need no sleep.

1 spell per level for domains?

Actually, this situation comes up on occasion when using published materials. Just look at the Darkness Domain. There are variations in the FRCS, D&D, BoVD, and a host of 3rd party sources. Each source uses spells from the PHB and from the new spell listings in the particular source.

1 spell per level for domains?

There is nothing that I have been able to find that specifically forbids more than one spell per level in any domain. As a matter of game balance, I would not reccommend having more than 2-3 spells at a particular level, and all domains should be reworked in a similar manner. Keeping the...

    Building a Mounted Combat Fighter?

Something I wanted to point out. A Cavalier must be Lawful, and a barbarian loses his ability to rage when the character becomes Lawful. So, the Extra Rage feat will be worthless to you.
