D&D 5E 20th level Wizard vs the World

Perhaps there is a corner case argument that everyone with a great deal of personal power who wants control over the world and will leverage their power to get it is criminally insane... but human history is FULL of this stuff. As for Faerun - as an ex-archaeologist and student of anthropology...

Roll20's Latest Report Shows Growth Everywhere!

I was referring to the volume of reported play in different systems. Sure, other platforms sell good online, but Amazon takes nearly all the oxygen and the point is sound. Your point about people playing other rpg's that aren't DnD is not born out by the figures I am afraid, and the sheer...

Blog (A5E) Level Up: Let’s Talk About Archetypes

The point was to create a word for a fantasy world which didn't equate to one anyone uses but which has touchstone similarity for the purposes of association. Athelete is boring - changing it was the whole point n'est pas?

Blog (A5E) A Quick Look At Skills

@Morrus Why not call it Traveller's Savvy and have it come into play similarly to the way the Rangers terrain skills changes - after a period of familiarisation. Initially rolls against this skill would avoid day to day gaffs in local customs and norms, and later allow mastery of the norms...

    D&D 5E BATTLE ROYALE - 20th Level Sorcerer vs. Wizard -- FIGHT!!!

Spell Mastery in Shield and the Wizard is going to shrug it all off with smirk...

Blog (A5E) Level Up: Let’s Talk About Archetypes

@Morrus My suggestions for final names etc. Olympian -> ATHALON Primal -> UNBROKEN Sun/Light -> SOLASTOR Beastmaster -> BEASTMAVEN (this leaves the 'mastery' in but takes the explicit gender aspect out of the name) Wildborn -> I don't really see the issue with this one, but you could go with...

Roll20's Latest Report Shows Growth Everywhere!

D&D is becoming the Amazon of ttrpgs - hoovering up the competition by forcing them to make their unique games '5e Compatible' Even Trudvangr is doing it now. If you don't use 5e you cannot sell your products... If this goes on for much longer there won't be much left by way of system...

D&D 5E 20th level Wizard vs the World

The reason why Mordenkainen and Elminster et al meet at the Yawning Portal to shoot the breeze is probably to convince their counterparts not to interfere with their world-spanning machinations, 'cos the only person stopping an uber wizard is another uber wizard... lets be honest... :)

Blog (A5E) A Sneak Peek At Magic

Ah fantasy ttrpgs and D&D in particular completely throw the timeline of tech advances and social evolution out of the window. It can jar a little sometimes if you are aware of it, but ultimately as long as it works at the table then it is of little consequence. :)

Then don't put them into your campaign, the game will still be fine without them. Apologies if that sounds trite, but your issue with the variant spells is that in your homebrew world they would spread quickly, which is of course a fact relevant to your world - and is therefore subject to change...

Level Up (A5E) What would you *call* an Advanced 5E?

It's not expanded though, it's 'extensively refurbished'... :)

Level Up (A5E) What would you *call* an Advanced 5E?

@Morrus 'Apotheosis 5e' - it has the benefit of literally meaning what you are seeking to achieve here and keeps the same useful A5E acronym. Or you could just call it Apotheosis and refer to the cross compatibility with a strapline like '5e Perfected' or '5th Edition Reimagined' - it all...

Blog (A5E) A Sneak Peek At Magic

Trap choice spells and spells overblown due to illogical design choices litter 5th Edition. I couldn't agree more with actually following the rules in the DMG on damage scaling for all spells in the game, not just the downward correction necessary for Fireball and Lightning Bolt. However, I...

D&D 5E Meet Achilles, Greatest Warrior of the Trojan War!

I must agree with the detractors here. Putting aside just the statblock, Achilles was legendary, peerless. If you must stick to a set formula on stats then at least put a special ability which gets his attack bonus and AC up to levels worthy of his legendary status. +9 is weak, and so is AC19. I...

    D&D General Too many cultists

It may be for the style of D&D you and your group typically play, but organised crime has figured large in some of the games I have run, and will run. Despite the fact much of the rules are given over to combat, killing everything should rarely be the whole point of a campaign. Intrigue and the...
