D&D 5E How Do You Feel About The New UA?

... Mostly, I'm just trying to work out what you're trying to convey with the "Detect Balance" parentheses. It seems to be a number, or sometimes not. Is higher good? There have been a few previous threads about these UA: D&D 5E - New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild! and D&D 5E -...

D&D 5E Are we at, or close, to peak D&D? Again?

I think the main question, really, is how sticky the current success of d&d is. At some point, it is going to wane. That might be next month, next year or next decade, but nobody is disputing that will happen. The real question is, what proportion of the current playerbase will stick with the...

D&D 5E How did you fare against Venomfang the Young Green Dragon Lost Mine of Phandelver?

Resurrecting this thread reminds me to tell this story (this may or may not be a good thing, of course). So, I took a group of coworkers through LMoP. I ended up adding quite a few details and changes, particularly an NPC hag who was unhappy that her favourite pub had been overrun by some...

Thank you, that helps a lot! settles down to read

    D&D 5E Legendary Adventures: Epic 5E Kickstarter

E6 is a really interesting concept based on 3.5e. It's based on the power level and mechanics of that edition, though, and the idea doesn't translate perfectly into 5e for a number of reasons. Feats being much smaller in number, more powerful and (fundamentally) an optional feature is one issue...

    D&D 5E Legendary Adventures: Epic 5E Kickstarter

I'd consider getting it (I don't run epic stuff, but some of my games do end up close to it, so mining for ideas is a thing). I don't see any examples of the work, though (other than the slightly obnoxious fast slideshow, which is tantalisingly unreadable). High level play is harder to balance...

D&D General You're Hasbro/WotC Marketing - What Do You Do for the 50-year Anniversary in 2024?

I'll say one thing - the anti-magic cone will be really easy to get working

D&D General If I was looking for grounds for a divorce

I've been watching this project with interest for quite a long time. The creator has been working on this for quite a long time, and has posted designs and component listings for some of the earlier iterations - from what I've seen, the price is reasonable for the components and work that would...

D&D 5E Do You Prefer Sandbox or Party Level Areas In Your Game World?

Hmm. Somewhere between for myself. In homebrew campaigns, I come up with a difficulty range for the world, and then I scale any particular situation to that. That includes giving the players some details during chargen - a game I ran a couple of years ago, for instance, had "The average...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie - Wild Speculation and Poll

Hmm. So, okay, they might be using the Eye of Vecna. There's a new dilemma: Do they fail to make a joke about the head of Vecna - a missed opportunity, if any existed. Or do they make a joke about it that falls flat. Truly, all to play for! (Okay, I admit there's a third possibility that I'd...

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Yeah. Unlike the shield spell, it only applies to one attack, and it starts at +2. It's not bad, but there are better feats.

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Well, for a base, look at the Defensive Duellist feat - requires dex 13 and that you are wielding a finesse weapon you are proficient with. It triggers when someone hits you with a melee attack, and allows you to spend a reaction to - yes - add your PB to your AC. That's straight out of the PHB...

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Hmm. Re flying in armour - I don't think I'd apply restrictions myself, but if I were going to I think something like this would fit the 5e principles rather elegantly: "Wearing heavier armour while flying requires great Strength. If you have a non-magical flight speed and you are wearing...

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Which is fine. The books 100% support you in that decision. This particular feature is still in playtest. When the survey comes out, you should share your concerns. If enough people don't like it, or if it in their own testing it's too good, then either the race won't make it to an official...

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

The only reason I've not given them any money is that I'm already running technically three games and I have a backlog that I want to run at some point - there's no way I'm going to be able to fit in any time to use it in the next year or two.

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

They do deserve it, too - their stuff is lovely. It's been on my my list to buy when I have a good excuse to use it for a while :-)

    D&D 5E Goldilocks Poll: Counterspell

When the party starts spamming counterspell... Have your NPCs cast cantrips. Magic-using enemies are supposed to be intelligent, and therefore a spell battle should be a battle of wits with them. Except when it's thematically appropriate for the party to just steamroller some enemies, which does...

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Many posts doesn't always mean that there's an issue. Quite a lot of this thread looks to be happy with the options, or discussing improvements. (I mean, yes, about half of it is also complaining, but people can also agree! I'm sure I've seen it)

D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Horrifying. But in defence(?) of this UA, it should be noted that rabbitfolk are also a natural fit for horror. Warning: Gore
