Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

... Why would you expect a ring to survive a fire when a lamp of the same material might not? (This is utterly academic of course; the right answer is "If the GM thinks it takes damage, it does")

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

Travel in style, arrive with grace ;-) Well... the classic genie lamp isn't steel - they're generally brass, bronze or (occasionally) gold. Any of those could actually be melted in the heart of a decent campfire.

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

So... I think it's reasonable that something like a fire would certainly damage the vessel. It's immune to poison and psychic damage, and neither immune nor resistant to anything else - so, fire damage would destroy it. So would bludgeoning damage, of course. It's a tiny vessel, so it would...

    D&D 5E Sell this 3.5 grognard on 5e

    I was hoping so :-)

    D&D 5E Sell this 3.5 grognard on 5e

You realise that this might be a positive argument for someone who loves 3.5e, right?

    D&D 5E Sell this 3.5 grognard on 5e

D&D is the 2010-ish Apple of RPGs. It's not revolutionary. Pretty much everything in it is inspired by something from another game. However, what it does is take a lot of innovative ideas, get them to work in harmony and polish them and present them to the mainstream (of RPG players), often for...

D&D 5E Magic Intiative Feat question

It really depends what you want. As a good example, I've used a variant human with magic initiate as a nice "Blessed by the gods" effect. For an example - take an Urchin background, build a Rogue with good persuasion, and grab Magic Initiate from the Cleric class list - guidance, thaumaturgy...

Oh, that's lovely. I can feel my eyes relaxing a little as I type this ;-)

D&D 5E Applying Psionic Talent Dice to other classes

I had a look at this. Basically, the PTD provides more common uses with less powerful effects, or more powerful effects at the cost of future power. (Basically - you are going to be able to use the PTD more often in an adventuring day, but the Battlemaster superiority dice will almost always...

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

Well... it's something like a bag of holding, except it has generous but still present limits on storage capacity. And if you put too much stuff in it, you won't have anywhere to sleep. And when you're inside it, you can't be guarding it. And it has explicit rules on how it can be destroyed...

Definitely. I really like the quill, actually. Being able to write something then have the text vanish with a wave of the hand is a lovely bit of minor magic.

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

They have only just opened the survey for the latest psionic UA. They talked about not progressing a wizard psionic subclass, too. That will be this one: https://media.wizards.com/2019/dnd/downloads/UA-PsychicSoulPsionics.pdf I had forgotten just how clear the evolution of the most recent...

D&D 5E Reduced standard array in exchange for a bonus feat at 1st.

You may be right. I think I need to see this in play, anyway. I can definitely see this being a common houserule. What it really needs, though, is a decent short name so that it can be easily argued about ;-)

D&D General Comic Relief Plays D&D

I think it's far more accurate to say that they have limited resources and have chosen to focus on the safest areas with the best expectations of return. Think about where the money that they could be spending is going instead. Right now, I would say that's going into streaming, games and the...

D&D 5E Reduced standard array in exchange for a bonus feat at 1st.

... I'm definitely going to try this. A thing I like about limiting the maximum stat to 14 is that assuming a +2 racial bonus, if you take a full-size feat at level 1, your primary stat is going to be 16... which is going to increase the appeal of taking an ASI to bump that to 18 down the line...

D&D 5E Reduced standard array in exchange for a bonus feat at 1st.

So the 14,13,13,12,10,8 array is still 23 point buy. Why not just go with: "27 point buy. You can buy a maximum of a 15. You may spend four points on a single feat, but if you do the maximum you can buy is a 14. If you don't want to choose, use the non-feat standard array of 15,14,13,12,10,8 or...

D&D 5E Reduced standard array in exchange for a bonus feat at 1st.

Yeah, I think I'd be happy with this house rule. I will definitely consider it in play and see how it works.

D&D 5E Reduced standard array in exchange for a bonus feat at 1st.

By the standard point buy rules you can't buy anything higher than a 15. The only way to get an 18 with this rule is to buy a 15, get a +2 racial bonus and then spend four points to get a half feat bumping that to 18. That gives an array something like 15, 14, 11, 10, 10, 8. So... one great...

D&D 5E 5e "Anyspell," Would You Allow the Enclosed Spell?

Okay, look. I've disagreed with you, and I have tried to do so with constructive criticism. You seem to only see an attack there. You asked us for our opinion of your homebrew idea. We have given it to you. Honest opinions do not have to be attacks, and I hope you understand that none of my...

D&D 5E 5e "Anyspell," Would You Allow the Enclosed Spell?

Look... Nobody can tell you not to do this in your game. That's where you get to have fun doing anything you like. But conversely, if you ask people "Would you allow this" and you get pretty much universal "No", including from people who usually disagree with each other... maybe you should just...
