    Talisman 4th Edition

Mr. Blackman is quite right. I was thinking in terms of game rules and not physical components. Really, my advice is to get the new full revised edition if you wish to use future new expansions.

    Talisman 4th Edition

Technically, no, because the board has some spaces changed to include the Fate mechanic. The FFG website has these spaces in high-res images suitable for printing if one wishes to bring their BI board up to date.

Forked Thread: 1E DMG vs. 3E DMG vs. 4E DMG: 1e DMG in newer edions

As for rules (and advice) not applying in new editions: you can pretty much throw out the 2e DMG and use the original in its place seemlessly. That is, if you're refereeing 2e and not the d20 versions of the game.

Where Has All the Magic Gone?

I think what Jack7 is saying could be made by analogy to how the Force was described in the original Star Wars films compared to how it was described The Phantom Menace. I think he may have a point there, but I won't attempt to apply it to RPGs, specifically D&D.

    Talisman 4th Edition

There are new Adventure and Spell cards that reference fate (small number). The Grim Reaper itself references Fate on one of the possible "gifts" he can give you. I think there is one Warlock Quest that requires you to discard Fate. In all, the Reaper expansion can be used pretty easily with...

Which DMG has the random Harlots table? Yeah, that one.

    Spell Lists: Really Necessary?

I've been wondering about this, too. I'm conceptualizing it as eliminating the divine classes, and having all spellcasters be wizards (or sorcerers). Fighting clerics would be multiclassed Fighter(Warrior)/Wizards as suggested above. Clerical and Druid hierarchy would be handled as Prestige...

Awesome! And what of the suggestion to place the Gary Q&A threads in their own separate forum of honor?

    Runebound: Your Opinions?

I'm quite a fan of Talisman and I've been recently looking for other fantasy board games suitable for two or more competing players. Since the new revised fourth edition of Talisman is by Fantasy Flight Games, I've been browsing their catalog, and Runebound has caught my eye. What's your...

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

Zeb had a Q&A thread over at Dragonsfoot. I'm sure he'd appreciate any virtual flowers players would like to send him.

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

In other words, it didn't go far enough in becoming a different game, which is what 3e did.

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

I loved using THAC0 with the "Defend Yourself!" procedure. Players rolled the attack rolls for their own opponents and add their armor class to the result. If the result is equal or greater than the opponents' THAC0, they are hit.

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

Yeah, it was a lost opportunity to systematize it more strongly (class/kit structure) as part of the core rules. I agree. The revised 2e books are the best looking books in my library, too.

    Talisman 4th Edition

The first 4th edition expansion, The Reaper, is now available. I picked up my copy today and will be playing in a few hours. A quick peak at the new cards has me impressed!

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

LOL! Literally. I also preferred the revised 2nd edition look. It was very attractive and easy to read.

What was so bad about the Core 2e rules? Why is it the red-headed stepchild of D&D?

This is actually something I've been thinking about lately. There's a bit of an incongruity in having character class groups such as Warrior, Wizard, Rogue, and Priest that have separate character classes under each (which essentially makes them related "sub-classes" of the overall grouping)...
