That's an official marketing video by WotC!?!?!

A perfect example of RPG ignorance...

She was eleven in the related story. She didn't get role-playing games. No biggie. She was reading Babysitters Club. That's cute. Maybe they should have put some Choose Your Own Adventure books in her hands.

4 Hours w/ RSD - Escapist Bonus Column

Orc's Nest! I still remember the ads in Dragon from the late 80s to early 90s! The Orc picking his nose with his tongue! Tiddley Widdley Diddley Plop! The Orcs have got another shoppe! (something like that)

    Choose the Illusion: Dungeon Mastering

If we want to do quotes: A month has not gone by in the last two years when I haven’t been interviewed by one or more newspaper writers or independent journalists who want to know all about D&D. I have likewise been interviewed by radio and TV news media, generally for the same reason. At the...

Jeff Grubb on WotC and layoffs

Are you me? I went through the very same thing in the mid-90s. It lead me to discover some other great RPG game systems and styles of play, but it ultimately taught me that D&D actually did it right . . . maybe even best.

Jeff Grubb on WotC and layoffs

My professor at University of Houston, Ross Lence, believed that a sniper should be put in place at every university graduation ceremony. When a student who had not studied Republic crossed the stage and reached for his diploma, the sniper would strike him down.

    Choose the Illusion: Dungeon Mastering

By your terms, what game can be played without a story? When I play the Talisman board game, I play a character on a quest to obtain the Crown of Command. I have encounters along the way. I encounter and compete with other players in my quest. A story results. Therefore, the Talisman board game...

Legends and Lore - Nod To Realism

This deserves to be repeated. The line that was crossed when the game went from war game to role-playing game, the implications of what the game was and how it was played was a sea-change, fundamental and revolutionary in scope. No iteration of RPGs (or games in general) has come close to this...

Ways Tabletop RPGs can Differntiate from MMOs

Have encounters like the one recounted in The Giant's Bag, which can only happen at a gaming table, i.e. real role-playing games.

    The Hobbit Trailer

Tolkien was unhappy with the "children's book tone" he took in The Hobbit after Lord of the Rings was published. He started (and abandoned) an attempt to rework The Hobbit to fit in tone and presentation closer to Lord of the Rings. He particularly regretted the 'narrator's voice' in the story.

    The Hobbit Trailer

The original bearers of the Elven Rings were: Vilya - Gil-galad (High King of the High Elves, ring passed to next High King on his death, Elrond) Narya - Cirdan (Gil-galad's lieutenant, lord of the Grey Havens, gave ring to Olorin upon his arrival in Middle-earth) Nenya - Celebrimbor (lord of...

    Going Retro

Tables are there, but does it ever explain how to use them? That is, if you don't have Chainmail, would you know how to use the alternative D&D combat?

WIR S1 Tomb of Horrors [SPOILERS!! SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!!]‏

Something to keep in mind about the xp totals - the module was originally written for OD&D, which had smaller xp requirements to level up past name level than AD&D. It's possible the xp suggestion is a hold over, and may be less stingy than it seems. Given the difficulty of the dungeon, I...
