Confessions of a 4e DM- I said no

I don't know what sunrods are, but we used to use Continual Light coins.

Maybe different versions just have different goals, and that's okay.

In my opinion, the manner and extent that versions of a game differ in goals, assumptions, and mechanics can make them different games, regardless of the trademarks and other IP involved.

4e A different type of disconnect??

Greek Fire most certainly could burn like that. But it wasn't lamp oil.

    Got Hobbits?

Holbytla have been in my campaign since the beginning 17 years ago, and will remain. They are generally "Shire" Hobbits, but more like Hobbits after the War of the Ring. The D&D Known World "Halflings of the Five Shires" is also an inspiration.

Why hate onthe drow? (Forked Thread: How is FR changing with 4E?)

Drow (at least FR Drow), Drizzt in particular, "nuked the fridge" long ago.

    Gnomes: Monster or PC (Poll)

All non-humans are monsters. Whether a non-human character can be a player character is up to the DM and the participants of the game.

    DMing Gender?

Human beings* do not have gender. Gender is a grammatical concept (masculine, feminine, and neuter). Human beings have sex: male or female [/nitpick] *and demi-humans, etc. etc.

Feeling short changed by 4th Ed.

I don't have 4D&D yet, but perhaps those who miss certain race/classes that were excluded can take this opportunity to go "back to the basics," so to speak with the new edition. That's how I'd likely look at it.

    4e Cosmology Changes

I loved the original planar cosmology as a beautiful synthesis of mythology, literature, science-fiction, and other sources. The new cosmology is fine, too.

Yeah, that goofy Moorcock, what a retarded idea!

    No Random treasure !?!?...

Some players prefer a robust ruleset that provides all the tools without need for the DM to play game designer.

    I don't get what you'all are saying

How can someone be so right and so wrong in the same breath?

    D&D 4E Got to play 4E today

The purpose of any game is to challenge the players. Characters don't exist. They are the playing pieces manipulated by the players. "Character abilities" may be leveraged for advantage, but it is for the players' advantage, as it is the players' skill that is ultimately tested.

To all the other "simulationists" out there...

*clap, clap, clap* Well said! I heartily agree. The GM is better equiped to tailor his rulings to the tastes, expectations, and other unique circumstances of the playing group/campaign than slavish adherence to what a designer came up with.

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

I'd also like to note that Die Hard is cited in the hit points explanation in the HACKMASTER Player's Handbook. :)

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

Ah, I haven't kept up to date on everything so far. I assumed something like the Saga condition track was going to be in 4D&D. I was thinking healing surges to restore hit points would be perfectly reasonable if the character still has to suffer the effects of his wounded status on the...

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

How do healing surges interplay with the condition/damage track (that's still in 4D&D, right)?

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

A bugbear loses to Chuck Norris. And Mike Ditka.

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

Brainstorming: Idea: some settlements pay tribute to stronger neutral/somewhat evil forces for protection against other more harsh/destructive/evil forces that may threaten it. Idea: some settlements pay tribute to a Knight (of any alignment) and his retinue of men-at-arms for protection...

Help me out. PoL. Why don't small towns get overrun?

    To protect settlements, there's a keep on the borderlands . . .
