Do RPGs' Wargaming Aspects Overshadow RPing?

We've had quite a few sessions of pure role-playing without a single rolled die, so I'd say no.

    Politics interfering with gaming

I like to call it dogmatic politics. The belief that I am ABSOLUTELY CORRECT and your position has no merit whatsoever.

    Should the players always win?

No, but they should have a shot at winning. Sometimes my PCs will bite off more than they can chew, but I try to leave a way out if they choose to back out. If they don't-well, good luck, I don't often pull punches.

    Politics interfering with gaming

Quoted for truth. I have VERY strong political beliefs, but I don't consider the other side evil, I just think that they have different priorities. I like to compare it to arguing about music-unless you are factually in error, there is very little 'right' or 'wrong' involved. My favorite...

    D&D Technology

Probably referring to modern ideas of equality, human rights, upward mobility, etc. which wouldn't exist in a proper medieval setting.

Is Magic Too Commonplace In RPGs?

In my opinion there are too many magic items, but not neccesarily too much magic. I just don't see spellcasters having much desire to spend their valuable time cranking out magic items they won't use themselves. If a caster is powerful enough to create magic items, he or she probably has plenty...

Why would you want to play *that*??

In my current campaign we have a human, 2 elves, and 2 whacko combos (the aforementioned kobold half dragon and a Drow half dragon). The two half dragons are the weakest in a fight and do the most role-playing, so I have no problem with them.

How about Marv from Sin City? I think he might be CE though.

    CN archetypes

Not so sure about catwoman-depending on who is writing her she often seems CG. Same with Black Cat, though in her early days she was clearly CN. Hulk is still the best CN-he really doesn't care about others-Leave Hulk alone puny humans!!!! Plus he's the most famous by far.

The Complete Mage & The Complete Scoundrel

Complete Scoundrel is up there with Fiendish Codex on my list of 'must buy' upcoming products. Love the rogue types.

Why would you want to play *that*??

My wife is playing a half-dragon kobold in our current game. The weakness of the kobold combined with the LA is making her weaker in many ways than the rest of the party, but she's having a lot of fun with it.

    Real Life villains of ENWORLD

Don't recognize the last two, agree with Dire Bare on the first ones.

    Nuclear weapons of D&D Rules

So far no one has tried any of the special combat maneuvers in my campaign. I think I might have an NPC use some of them to bring them to the players' attention.

What is the most common alignment for your characters?

Typically Neutral Good. If I'm playing a rogueish type I lean towards Chaotic slightly. A mage will lean slightly Lawful, and on the rare occasion that I play a fighter type they usually stick to the middle of Neutral Good. Occasionally I'll play something more interesting like a Lawful Neutral.

    D&D Technology

Often magical advancement is seen as more important than technological advancement in my worlds. I've never run a campaign world that lasted for more than 1200 years in game time, and I've made sure that the past shows technological advancement, but slower than in our world.

What did we do before feats, skills, and prestige classes?

In first edition people created horribly unbalanced new classes, or got them out of Unearthed Arcana, or Dragon Magazine, or third-party sources. I think coming up with a cool concept and creating it within third edition rules requires just as much imagination.

How to PCs carry all their stuff?

I agree-older military packs were MUCH heavier than newer one. Especially if they got wet. Unless a character starts trying to carry a ridiculous amount of stuff I tend to ignore encumbrance.
