The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

Interrogation I Dobi scuffs his boots on the ground, silently cursing himself for not playing a larger role in the earlier combat. Resigning himself to greater levels of risk in the future, and seeing the situation well in hand, the halfling decides to introduce himself to Calla, much to the...

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

A few crunchy bits on the changes as of the conclusion of the Tierak Morcane battle: Andy was the first PC to die during this adventure. Being five levels lower than the stepchildren, I knew that the "weird hangers-on," as I called them earlier in the thread, would be delicate, and I settled...

    JollyDoc's Shackled City

Sure. There was some discussion on the rules forum a while ago, but unfortunately I can't search to find it. There are a bunch on the WotC messageboards: http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8 off of the "mature accessories" line. You have to register to get to the BoED on...

    JollyDoc's Shackled City

If Lela is referring to the Vow of Poverty progression, sleeping is the one thing he'll still need to do, up to level 20 at least. There are some homebrew VoP epic progressions that eliminate it, though. Nice description of the meteor approach, Joachim. Very evocative.

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

Tierak Morcane Trella has one idea. "Anybody got a torch or other source of light we can throw onto the floor when we go in there? I want to blind those Underdark cockroach rat bastards as we enter. They're expecting us, so we need to get back some element of surprise. We'll need the light...

    JollyDoc's Shackled City

Hey, never noticed that. Thanks! That should make life easier for me. Thanks also to Lela. I've got another year's worth of material to get out, so I'll stick with it.

    JollyDoc's Shackled City

Cool, ending, guys. Makes me want to run the test for my group. Maybe after I finish with the RttToEE. Assuming any characters survive that. Question for you all: How do you play the weapon breaking power of the apostle of peace? Is it always a straight fort save based on the wielder's...

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

Maurezhi Rhien advances just as four hideous ghoul-like creatures materialize in front of Danek and Andy, claws and teeth flying. Both feel poison enter from the wounds, threatening paralysis, but a burst of positive energy restores them before they even start to seize up. Rhien, from whom...

Yes, please, before those of us who have not read the adventure are spoiled for the ending!

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

Bebilicious Trella snarls, “Fine, then,” in response to Kai, and raises her staff. Andy, scared by this example of self-assured womanhood, backs away from what he hopes is immediate danger and launches a pair of sling bullets at the nearest bebilith. One projectile misses wildly, while the...

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

A Sticky Situation Kyree’s assessment proves right as eighteen distinct tentacles lash out from the darkness toward the mingled party. Moving quicker than they do, the elf backs up out of their likely range and fires a barrage of arrows at the closest. Lenara and Cerridwin join him...

    [Epic] Fun with Permanent Emanation

Oops. :D Don't have my books handy and forgot about that. "Attack me and die" does have a nice ring to it, though. I wonder if the lethal and the subdual damage would count as different effects, so that you could have one permanent emanation of each. That way you could stop bar fights...

    [Epic] Fun with Permanent Emanation

Don't forget "End to Strife" from the BoED. That's my personal favorite. There's just something compelling about saying, "enough!" and having it backed by major subdual damage whenever you feel like.

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

Into the Crypts Eventually the druid speaks, her words laced with bitterness over the quick loss of Earl. "Well," she remarks, "I don't see as the doors will gain us much if our goal is to find the drow who killed the other drow. I'm not against searching behind the doors, but Kai's right, we...

Vow of Poverty and Epic Levels

Sorry, I was confused by the thread. You had posted another one asking questions about your character, so I assumed that this one was an alternative VoP progression. With regard to the half-celestial progression, I both like the idea, and agree with Pax as to its implementation.

Vow of Poverty and Epic Levels

Ah, I had thought that when you said it was a VoP progression, that was all it was. This makes more sense, thanks. :) As for comments, I guess I'm still not sure how this would be part of a normal VoP progression. Would all VoP takers have to skip the next four levels of class advancement...

Vow of Poverty and Epic Levels

While I like the idea thematically, I think it is too overpowered to give as part as a natural VoP progression, unless it comes with a level adjustment or the like. Consider a monk, who arguably gets the least benefit, thanks to his SR, immunity to disease, outsider type, DR, and immunity to...

Vow of Poverty and Epic Levels

I'm a little confused. Is this meant to be an epic level progression for the VoP feat, or is this a new direction for your character?

    Epic Monk Prestige Classes (?)

I think the point was that you don't get epic feats with fighter levels until you are an epic fighter, i.e. 21rst level in that class. Taking 1rst level fighter at 21rst character level gets you only a non-epic feat. Personally, my own VoP monk will be moving into divine spellcasting classes...

The Stepchildren of Fate (Updated 6/3)

The Rage of Chahir Kyree rolls to the side and draws his bow, accepting the pain of a vampire spawn’s pummeling in order to deliver a volley of arrows from his bow at point-blank range. Andy leaps past him, looking to impress the ladies, and smacks one of the elf’s targets with his whirling...
