D&D 5E 5E is attempting to recalibrate our expectations

Agree (but can't give out any more Experience). :)

D&D 5E 5E is attempting to recalibrate our expectations

I agree. If we go back to the ol' 36 levels, there's plenty of room for all power levels.

D&D 5E 5E is attempting to recalibrate our expectations

I think the Tiers would seem to me to be the easiest way to please everyone at launch. They can always release supplemental material for those who want to run the duration of an entire campaign at a given power level.

D&D 5E 5E is attempting to recalibrate our expectations

With respect though, if you are not comfortable with high-level play, it is your call whether you run it. The problem is, if the option isn't included in the rules, it is very difficult for those who want to play higher powered campaigns to do so.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

No. It recovered Hit Points, which are an abstract life force measure used in DnD. Real damage is what you take in real life. I am not saying this to be an asshat, what I am pointing out is that is hard for someone to argue that they want realistic damage mechanics, but they want magic to be...

D&D 5E 5E is attempting to recalibrate our expectations

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind starting off as 'farmer's son with a pitchfork' if I can graduate to being the equivalent of Achilles some day. If on the other hand I'm going to be only a little stronger than the bulk of the population for my whole career, I might as well play Rune Quest...

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Real damage has never been cured with magic.

D&D 5E 5Eing Action Points, Drama Points, Fate Point, Hero Points, Etc.

I agree, but I would prefer that there was no automatic recovery, instead that it becomes a DM reward for good role-playing, perhaps linked to character motivation (like Willpower recovery in Vampire).

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Narrative does not begin and end with the DM, it is something that the DM and the Players contribute to. A limited ability for a Character to recover, when a Player chooses, grants them some small measure of control of the narrative for their character (like drinking a potion, but without the...

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Well, I'm a bit of a radical, I would like Healing Magic to be temporary, and the only permanent recovery method to be natural healing. Never gonna get that though.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I would probably favour all characters getting a Second Wind-type mechanic, which would allow them to recover some Hit Points (maybe end a Condition like Stunned or paralysed) once per combat. Enough to give a character a second chance, but no constantly yo-yo-ing Hit Point total.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I'm not saying it has to be implemented in the same manner as 4e, I'm just asking for an equivalent that fits within the framework of 5e.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

IMO what they do is grant the Player some control over the narrative in respects of their character. Nothing bad.

D&D 4E Turning 4e Cosmology into the Great Wheel

Well let's agree to disagree. To clarify, my preference for 4e Demons is that there is an attempt to make them meaningfully different to Devils with a mechanism other than them being a slightly different flavour of evil.

    D&D 5E Another Critical Hits 5E Report

I couldn't agree more with this. I also feel the the entitlement snipe was both derogatory and unnecessary for an otherwise informative peek. I wouldn't play a Runequest campaign and expect it to be Exalted. 4e is high fantasy, and those who play it tend to approach from that standpoint.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

I agree. What Hit Points represent is a fundamental part of the game, and whatever is decided has a major knock-on for many other parts. I would like to see Hit Points made what they were originally described as; an abstract of all sorts of defences, luck, toughness etc. As part of this, Hit...

D&D 4E Turning 4e Cosmology into the Great Wheel

I played with the Great Wheel Cosmology for a long time (particularly in Planescape), but I prefer what they came up with in 4e. - I found the Elemental Chaos far more interesting than the Elemental and Para Elemental planes (a plane of nothing but fire......fun). - I much prefer Demons as...

    Sounds good to me. :)

Cleric - Holy Warrior or Healer?

Why not both? It would be nice if there were enough options within the Class to play your Cleric as principally a caster, or as a warrior with a little bit of divine magic, or anything in between.

    D&D 5E D&D 5e Feats

Really agree with this. Having fewer Feats restricted by Class would (I hope) allow characters to be more closely tailored. I would also like Feats to grant abilities, even basic ones, rather than dull bonuses.
