PHB II and Improved Natural Attack

I agree with you completely on this point. I really just thought that some people were taking an overly simplistic approach to the level of difficulty involved in writing, playtesting, editing and publishing a primary rulebook or source supplement on the scale we are talking about. However...

Adding weapon special abilities to amulet of mighty fists

FWIW I tried to limit the three examples I posted to items related to stature and physiology. Because I knew that if I used examples involing skill or technique that would reflect back to a Monk's existing increase in base damage based on level. Regardless though, I just took issue with the...

Can monks get improved natural attack?

The fact that this has been discussed in three different threads THIS week alone, supports the validity that a reasonable percentage of people on these boards find the original rules in the PHB to be vague regarding this feat and whether or not Monks can take it. If you do not feel the rule is...

Why did they take a level of commoner?

Or the kid with the misspent youth who meets the right girl, abandons his rowdy way of life and walks the straight and narrow path as a fine, upstanding citizen.

Can monks get improved natural attack?

I am afraid that once more, a situation has arisen where parties will have to agree to disagree. I feel that Artoomis' summary was accurate and despite having mild but clear bias, fairly presented both sides of the discussion. It is very clear to me that the first point in his summary is from...

Why did they take a level of commoner?

Well, it's not a 'rules' justification per se, but I would imagine in large part it would be a flavor thing. A means to represent what the character had actually been doing with their time...they'd been spending it as a commoner.

The 10-foot pole, antithesis of what adventuring should be?

My group was faced with a dungeon on the outskirts of a small town to explore and soon discovered that while the dungeon was rich in treasure it was also rife with traps. So, the party went back to town for more supplies to help defeat the traps. Unfortunately, being a very small farming...

PHB II and Improved Natural Attack

I'm sorry, it's very easy after the fact to find errors in most any publication. However, I think many of you are underestimating the complexity of any task as difficult as writing a rule book for a game system. Even if you had everything exactly right, some publisher could think he's doing...

Can monks get improved natural attack?

If you read up several posts, you'll see that the assumption in this point is that the reader is accepting the FAQ and PHB2 to be valid alterations, clarifications and additions to the Rules as Written. Additionally the other points clearly acknowledge that this is only one of many positions...

Can monks get improved natural attack?

And really...that's all that Artoomis' second point addresses, as well as the only thing my response addresses, and clearly, from the above statement, you agree. So where is the disagreement?

Can monks get improved natural attack?

No, not really. If your group accepts the FAQ and PHB2 as "canon" and considers those sources to be a valid extension and/or clarification of the Rules as Written...then Monks are "absolutely" allowed to take INA as a feat. The FAQ makes it crystal clear that it IS allowed. There is no...

Can monks get improved natural attack?

Actually, I think Artoomis did a fine job of summarizing both sides. It's clear which side he leans towards, however he presents both sides and in my opinion does an excellent job of it.

PHB II and Improved Natural Attack

This will be seen by some to be off-topic. However, I am posting it as an example of the complexity that exists in this industry. Yes, mistakes are made, but please don't take that as an indication that there is no quality process in place or as a sign that material is published without a great...

Or subtely greater bone density allows for harder impacts. Or natural flexibility of joints allows for faster strikes. Or naturally superior musculature and weight distribution allows for notably more solid hits

The actual text in the MM about INA says, I'm not sure why people read that to understand that the body part used in the natural attack is physically larger.

    What To Do with Player?

It implies a degree of dedication to the telling of lies. I cook, but I'm not a chef. I've told lies, but would not consider myself to be a liar. Since pretty much everyone has told a lie, the description 'liar' would lose all meaning. So the term liar, in every day use, is reserved for those...

    What To Do with Player?

I think the wisdom was...you can trust a person who has lied, but don't trust a liar. As to this specific situation. I pride myself on being an excellent mediator, ambassador and diplomat. I am the glue that has held many of my previous groups together, provided a path for communication...

That was my question, the player assessed that once the Monk qualified for the first level of Ki Strike that seemed to be a reasonable substitute for the "Masterwork" requirement.

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

I currently play 3.5 because the group that adopted me when I moved here plays 3.5. But honeslty...I'm a HUGE fan of 1e and always will be. I loved the class balance (or lack thereof), the grit, ease of play and use. I play with a few house rules...I usually waive racial level limitations if...
