    What's happening to the bard?

What's the general prognosis for the 4th edition bard? I haven't heard much about his viability. Will 4-ed be bard-free?

Will you laugh or cry at the gnomes' good-bye party?

Ouch. Nice twist on the theme. :\

To ALL ENWorlders: Did you play 1E AD&D?

That was back when you could use actual dinosaurs to represent dragons, and a dungeon was just a really deep cave, right? "We didn't have dice back then. We had rocks. We threw them at each other. And we LIKED IT...."

    The Unified Theory of Gnomes

That would so totally RAWK!!! ... :( And yet, I'm still not sensing a unified racial "focus" thingy that so many people have been whining about lately. Sure, they've got the rainbow mohawk-feywild dinosaur synergy going on, but after that they would seem to lose cohesion. I mean...

Honestly, how often have you used gnomes?

That's funny. MY gnomish accountant-turned-adventurer was named Kalkulayt Thunderquill. Gnomes can find something amusing even in math.

Will you laugh or cry at the gnomes' good-bye party?

 + :( I'll cry until I laugh, or laugh until I cry. Something like that.

Will you laugh or cry at the gnomes' good-bye party?

When the 4th edition PHB is released for public consumption, will you be sad at the absence of gnomes from the core book or pleased to see them gone?

Dammit, Warlord, Warlock, Tiefling, and Dragonborn are growing on me.

Thanks for that warning, P.S.! I've edited my original post to include material that seems to be in the vein of this thread. I hope it's appropriately "content"-like to satisfy public standards.

Honestly, how often have you used gnomes?

The people I know who have played gnomes have always, without exception, put more effort into highlighting the character's personality beyond combat utility or fight scenes. Collectively over the years, that has done more to establish a racial/ethnic concept (i.e. stereotype) in my mind that...

Honestly, how often have you used gnomes?

I've played gnomes since first edition. They make the best thieves and illusionists. Lighthearted little chaps, they are. Always looking at the world with a slightly skewed perspective. Darned if I know why I identify with 'em .... The gnome or the player? Yeah. Nothing will eat an elf. I...

Dammit, Warlord, Warlock, Tiefling, and Dragonborn are growing on me.

I think they've already developed an ointment for that. You should take more time to dry thoroughly after you shower. I also like "dark and savage" fantasy, and I'm also starting to like the whole "points of light" stuff. I can't explain why, but I just feel that way.

Need advice on playing a beguiler

Sheesh, guys, give it a rest. He didn't ask to be second-guessed about the class choices already made; he's looking for help with what he's got now. So it doesn't do any good to keep harping on how worthless the bard level is.

Need advice on playing a beguiler

Depends on the DM and campaign -- how much information is given, its relative importance to the scenario, and how long the campaign lasts. Obviously, your experience suggests otherwise. Can't assume the same about others, however.

Need advice on playing a beguiler

If there's only two players, each with two characters, it might prove beneficial to develop an easy-to-channel personality (i.e. play a stereotype) for your bard/beguiler so it'll be easier to swap back and forth with your other PC. The side benefit of the approach is that certain game mechanic...

Need advice on playing a beguiler

Advice: don't listen to anyone telling you what not to do.

How would you interrogate an artifact battleaxe?

Try the "good cop/bad cop" approach. "... Sorry about that, Mr. Axe, but my partner has a problem with weapons of authority such as yourself. Can I get you a whet stone? Maybe a nice polish to make your stay more comfortable?" "Dang it, just get out of my way! I say we use his pretty little...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

I read elsewhere that they're introducing three kinds of hit-point regenerative abilities as well: a Protein-Laden Recovery (something involving steak and lobster), a Feather-Bed Recovery (requires the PC assume a horizontal position), and a Medicinal Recovery (they're still experimenting with...

    Average of exploding dice?

It's the averaging aspect that would seem to make this pretty simple to figure out, as I understand it. Of course I may be wrong, because I'm no longer a mathematician and I haven't put a LOT of thought into it... But we're looking at an average die value of 3.5, right? And then 1/6th of that...

    How often do you practice?

I just heard that someone is releasing a dice-rolling simulation for the Wiiiii system in time for the holiday shopping season. No game involved; just rolling dice.
