    D&D General Greyhawk and Polearms

I think cultural or national polearms would be a perfect sort of flavor for Greyhawk. Especially nice way to telegraph heritage for characters or NPCs.

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

It does seem a perfect example of an equivocation fallacy and motte-and-bailey argument.

    D&D (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I’m close to agreeing Greyhawk should have been skipped in place of guidance for building and running dungeons. You know, that other part of the game’s name and book’s name.

D&D General Redesigning DnD 5e with no Bonus Actions

    Here’s Mike’s thread on Bluesky. https://bsky.app/profile/mearls.bsky.social/post/3lecpus652s26

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

I posted a thread with a link to a New York Magazine article and it was closed because it was thought to be the same article as this New York Times piece. ¯\(ツ)/¯ It is an entirely different publisher written by entirely different authors, so I’ll post the different story link here I guess...

D&D General New York magazine on D&D’s 50th anniversary “… still misunderstood“

“The Most Dangerous Game At 50, Dungeons & Dragons is more popular than ever — and still misunderstood.” https://www.vulture.com/article/is-dungeons-and-dragons-fun-game-popularity-misunderstood.html

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

So you are equating owning people as property with having responsibilities?

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

Left D&D after Living Greyhawk was ended. Though I tried 4e for about 4 months and went away. Stayed off all tabletop RPGs into a few years into 5e, about 2018, as I tried to get my kids into RPGs. Our group has kept going. We’ve stayed with 5e though I have pushed other near-D&D systems like...

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

Dark Sun leaves a lot of opportunities for DMs to be naughty word DMs at each opportunity when the PCs defeat the abundant evil and horrors. Maybe in a hopepunk take on Dark Sun, the table should have to session zero that the DM will create challenges but not work to screw over with every tool Dark...

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

I wrestled with making Greyhawk’s “muscular neutrality” work in the weird 9 alignment grid and I kept hitting friction points that took funny unworkable fiat. I settled on instead an attempt at a Prime Material self-defense balance between forces of cosmological Law and cosmological Chaos.

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

I believe they are trying to use a definition of slavery = potential obligations, and not slavery = owning people as property.

D&D General Updating non-human pantheons for the new world orc-der (+)

Same. Verges on distasteful imo. Trying to make worldbuilding work around that race-homogeneous pantheons got to be a Gordian Knot I didn’t want to break open. Cultural homogeneous pantheons I can make work.

D&D Beyond Adds Illrigger Class from MCDM

It’s not 7 pages though. I have the revised version and it is 40 pages, 15 pieces of color art by 4 artists, a couple pages of fiction, a couple items, a few spells, 5 npc retainers, the class takes 22 pages of it.

D&D Beyond Adds Illrigger Class from MCDM

It is. Matt designed the first version for a player in his group then released it to patrons to check out, then the public to buy. The version on DnD Beyond is an updated version. Matt hired a designer (Sadie Lowrie?) to take it, update it, add to it, give it to MCDM playtesters to go at.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

I would love to see Free League’s Ruins of Symbaroum get added, it’s such a nice lower magic 5e set of classes.

D&D General Greyhawk: Snarf's Guide to Ready-Made Campaign Themes!

Huh, I really like that description as RenFaire. So accurate once you read through. That same tone seemed common through some other early 2e-era Greyhawk like Castle Hart.

D&D General Greyhawk: Snarf's Guide to Ready-Made Campaign Themes!

Hot take: I keep hearing other long time fans rave about it. But there was little about it I liked, and most of it made me regret it, but I bought it from the clearance shelf cheap. Only after my completist collector impulse kicked in did I feel lucky to have acquired it. I’ve never gone back to...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

The only reason Elon would ask his hate speech buddies what the price of D&D’s owning company is is if he was cooking his brain on psychedelics on no sleep again, and wants to stir (s**t) with his fawning stooges. He knows how to use Google and can figure out the cost of something… I think?

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

To be devil’s advocate, Elon didn’t buy Twitter with his money. He got banks, hedge funds, Middle East wealth, to back his purchase based on his promises and his track record with tech. Then he crashed the value of a social network like horse loose in a hospital leading to massive write downs...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

If you’re a WotC-hater mad at them for flirting and gesturing at AI, cyclically firing staff, favoring short-term investors over fans, wait until Elon gets his rage-tourist hands in it.
