Treasure Division - Book value or Sale Value?

So a magic item that's worth 50% of book value is a commodity, but one that's worth 75% isn't? Weird definition of "commodity" you have there.

Treasure Division - Book value or Sale Value?

Only if you can find someone willing to pay more than 50% of the book value for it. Seriously. That's what the word "worth" means.

Treasure Division - Book value or Sale Value?

Sale value, of course. Using the book value would make no sense.

Are you put off by "Creative" Campaign Settings?

I am, and I suspect most others are, too, regardless of what they may claim. :D

Repeat saves against the same effect

Take 10. I routinely advise players of sneaky types to Take 10 on their Move Silently and Hide checks to avoid having their really high Move Silently check ruined by a really low Hide check (for example), but it's also useful when you need a consistent result again and again and again. It's...

    Vorpal vs fortification armor

This is how I see it, too. The distinction between immunity to crits and having a 100% chance of negating crits that some people are attempting to draw is just too subtle for me to believe that the game's designers intended it, yet never explicitly mentioned it even one time. But I'd love to...

    Readying a charge

It's my belief that the PHB authors did not intend to allow Readied Charges when they wrote the rules for restricted charges. It's also my belief that there is no good reason not to allow Readied Charges, so long as all movement during the turn otherwise conforms with the Charge rules.

    Vorpal vs fortification armor

I don't buy the distinction between immunity to crits and negating a crit. It leads to bizarre results. Consider the warforged. He has light fortification (25% chance to negate a crit). So Hyp would say he has a 25% chance of negating a vorpal strike. Okay. That's sensible enough. But...

Using Detect Evil AKA Another Paladin Thread!

Thank god somebody in this thread understands how alignments work! I'd have responded myself, but I have a deep aversion to spending any real amount of time discussing alignment. Too many wasted hours of my life... Yeah. Because they are.

Using Detect Evil AKA Another Paladin Thread!

I see no reason why they would. I also don't see how it could "be a problem later on," but then I'm not one of those DMs who dislikes detect spells in general. You might want to consider allowing a Sense Motive check (DC 20) for others to notice that the paladin seems to be "focusing his...

    A dilema

I don't know why I'm surprised to find that there are people -- a lot of people, actually -- who believe there is no moral obligation on the OP to tell the cuckolded husband what's going on. But I'd be willing to bet that none of them have ever had a spouse cheat on them. There is no question...

Shirt of False Life - Reasonable?

Magic of Faerun had an item called an Amulet of Laeral's Tears that bestowed temporary hit points at the rate of 50 gp each. The thing about it was that the hit points weren't renewable, though. Renewable temporary hit points are more valuable than those obtained through, say, an Amulet of...

mithral breastplate vs. adamantine chain shirt

+1 AC is worth more than DR 1/-, even at low levels (except in the limited circumstance where just about everything you fight deals a very small amount of damage). At high levels, the disparity is even greater. In every other way (cost, weight, and even max Dex -- which you don't care about...

    Awarding XP

"Only characters who take part in an encounter should gain the commensurate [XP] awards. Characters who died before the encounter took place, or did not participate for some other reason, earn nothing, even if they are raised or healed later on." DMG, p.37. It's up to you to decide if water...

What does 'epic' mean to you?

21st level and above. Or, in the case of magic items, a +6 or greater enhancement bonus. That's about all it means to me nowadays. If someone told me they were planning an "epic campaign," I'd expect characters of 21st level and above. If they told me they were planning an "epic campaign"...

You can't Ready an action to cast enlarge person, because it requires a full-round action.

    Dispel Magic vs. multiple summoning

I don't see anything there that requires the targeted dispel to "define an area." The spell being targeted for dispelling is a "spell within an area," so it's a valid target.

Can you hold a THW with one hand in combat?

I would say definitely as an object; it is not being utilized as a melee weapon, so as far as the Disarm mechanics are concerned, it isn't a melee weapon.

Does a limb provoke/take an AOO?

What Infiniti said, except for #3. I would not use his suggested house rule of actually interrupting the action; if you allow the AoO, it would just deal damage, the same as if you Readied an attack on the limb reaching into your threatened area.
