    Paladin with Bard Spell Progression

Hi tenkar! I'm not so sure the fighter is getting the shaft compared to this class. The only directly combat-related abilities of the crusader are the Smite ability at sixth level and a handful of buffing and healing spells. The crusader will need at least a moderate Wisdom score and a good...

    Paladin with Bard Spell Progression

Hi Arkhandus! I think "zealot" goes too far with its negative connotations. I can't even think of a single example in modern English where the word would have a positive meaning! I agree that giving the class a d10 Hit Die is a lot. However, look at this way; almost all of the spells in the...

    Balancing E6

This reminded me that in the Conan RPG the thief class has a few abilities that you could translate into feats for rogues and other Sneak Attack classes. For example, thieves in Conan can inflict damage with eight-sided die instead of six-sided die when making a Sneak Attack with any one weapon...

    Paladin with Bard Spell Progression

Hi, and thanks for your comments! I sort of agree about the class name - since it's already used in Tome of Battle I should probably just pick another name. What I like about "crusader" are the militaristic and perhaps even slightly negative connotations of the word. Not even lawful good...

    Design and Development: Cosmology

The impression I got from the article was that the opening of the Abyss was thousands of miles in extent. Think of something like the Great Red Spot of Jupiter.

    Paladin with Bard Spell Progression

Thanks for the comments! Before I go into the details I should clarify that giving the crusader a good Reflex save was a fluke; the first saving throw column should read Fort, not Ref! Also, the table was meant to be far from finished, only showing the first step in modifying the paladin by...

    Paladin with Bard Spell Progression

Hi there! I've been working on a campaign world that uses rycanada's wonderful E6 rules. Integrating the divine-based classes into the world has presented a fun little problem. It's a common notion that the cleric and paladin classes are similar in flavor, if not in capabilities. Both are...

    Elemental Planes Killed

Personally, I think they should go with the Planes of Chemical Elements. Adventures in pure bromine!

Yay! "Come now, what's eating you, son?" Priceless.

    New Design: Wizards...

Ha! I was just commenting Lurks-no-More's post. It was definitely not a slight against anything.

    New Design: Wizards...

Oh, and did anyone catch this: The text specifies physical enhancements; does that mean no mental enhancement spells like Fox's Cunning? If so, it kind of reminds me of AD&D where you only had the Strength spell... Or am I reading too much into it?

    Filling Class/Role combos

I think that's a good thing. The niches of martial controller and divine striker seem particularly awkward to me.

    New Design: Wizards...

Really neat change! I like it not only because it's flavorful, but also because focus items are so easy to change to suit your own preferences. I already had a strong inclination to start working on magicians based on the Tarot. Hell, the Minor Arcana are already associated with the classical...

    D&D 4E 4E wackiness escalation

Well, I for one would love it if things worked out like that. I guess we'll just have to wait for further information.

New tidbit about spells and hit points.

I think that if someone uses the Warlock for constant blasting he's doing the class a bit of a disservice. There's a lot more to the Warlock than just the attack spells.

    New name for Warlord

This list gave me the idea of simply renaming the Fighter into Warrior and the Warlord into Soldier for my personal use. For me the word warrior implies personal combat prowess and the word soldier combat as part of a unit. Works for me! (Although Warlady sounds great.)

    New name for Warlord

I don't see connotative baggage as necessarily a bad thing - it can simply be used as flavor. For example, the Cleric is essentially a warrior-magician with the connotative baggage of military-monastic orders. I could very well envision a martial 4E class that fits the Leader role modeled after...

    New name for Warlord

I'm not sure I understand why perfectly suitable and commonly used names like Soldier and Knight - both of which imply leadership and fighting in a unit - are worse options than outlandish names like Battlesmith and Myrmidon. (And before you ask, yes, this thread prompted me to register. :))
