D&D General Whom did you romance in Baldur's Gate 3?

I am a nerd who has played through the game a number of times. I played the Lae'zel, Gale, Astarion + Halsin and Wyll romances to completion. Next I will play as Wyll and romance Karlach. This is the classic enemies to lovers trope.

    D&D General BG3 and 5E Theories. Top 10.

I was wondering if BG3 players have a preferred party composition they like to use most of the time. After many hours of playing mine is -- Swords Bard 10/Fighter 1/Wizard 1 (sharpshooter feat) (Astarion) Light Domain Cleric 12 (radiating orb and/or reverberation gear) (Shadowheart) Berserker...

D&D 5E What are the highlights of D&D 5th edition for you?

    1. I first played D&D at the tail end of 1E. 5E is the most accessible version of the rules I encountered. Yet it still retained enough complexity to get the character optimization part of my brain going. 2. The light domain cleric. That was MY class in the PHB. As soon as I started...

    D&D General BG3 and 5E Theories. Top 10.

Dual wielding hand crossbows is actually extremely powerful in BG3 with the correct build. I've done two versions of this. Gloomstalker Ranger 5/Champion Fighter 4/Thief Rogue 3 and Swords Bard 10/Fighter 2. The key is to get both the archery fighting style and the sharpshooter feat. The...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 Hates Religion (Spoilers)

The main six companions are all struggling with some toxic authority figure. Sometimes this figure is a deity, other times not. Shadowheart - Shar. Astarion - Cazador. Lae'zel - Vlaakith. Karlach - Gortash/Zariel. Gale - Mystra. Wyll - Mizora.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

The Act 3 romance scene you have with Lae'zel is surprisingly moving. Hard to believe it is the same Lae'zel from Act 1. You'll know it is coming because she wakes you up and asks you to see something. In an alternate life she would have been a poet.

D&D 5E No One Plays High Level?

I am playing a Clockwork Soul Sorcerer 9/Hexblade Warlock 2. The other PCs are a battlemaster fighter, cleric, eloquence bard and a custom homebrewed class (I think an airbender?).

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I finished my second run as a custom female githyanki ranger/rogue/fighter who was romancing Lae'zel. In our version, Prince Orpheus transformed into the mind flayer. After we defeated the Absolute he asked us to kill him but I passed a persuasion check and convinced him to live. He could see...

D&D 5E No One Plays High Level?

Right after the new year we are starting a new campaign. There are major house rules changes and PCs are starting at 11th level. I have NEVER started a campaign at 11th level. Generally speaking that is the point when the vast majority of our campaigns are ending. This is exciting but I...

    D&D General One Less Warlock

So sorry for your loss Dave. Somewhere in the afterlife, I hope your daughter is still enjoying a game of D&D.

D&D 5E The Perils of Dump Stats

I have not had any of my PCs die in 5E because of a dump stat. I'm virtually certain it happened in earlier editions, but I did not play 4E and earlier than that my aging self cannot remember. But I have had PCs crippled in combats due to low stats. I hate intellect devourers because...

    D&D General D&D Loyalty?

D&D was my first love with TTRPGs so I am always willing to give a new edition a try. Some versions I've stuck with, others not. It is an important part of my gaming repertoire. But it has never been exclusive. To never play other systems would be boring to me. And some of those other...

How Crunchy is Too Crunchy, For You Personally

For me TORG Eternity is probably the upper limit of complexity I can tolerate. The basics of the system are actually quite simple -- a single d20 roll. But the system is undergirded by a lot of math. It took about five months of play for it to sink in. I worked through the complexity as I...

Worlds of Design: Reassessing Tolkien’s Influence

Off topic -- I agree, but I don't think this is limited to the fantasy/sci-fi genre. I also read mysteries -- mostly cozies but a few hard-boiled. And I have read complaints from mystery lovers that the genre is disrespected in literary and academic circles. Then there is romance, a genre I...

    D&D General Adventurers As Superheroes

I think Tier 3 (Level 11+) is the turning point where the PCs "become" superheroes. The DMG calls PCs of this tier "shining examples" and "true paragons of the world, set well apart from the masses." At lower level it is more like street level heroes. Tier 1 might be Daredevil/Black Widow...

Do players want challenging games, with a real chance of death?

Speaking specifically about D&D, the culture around character death has changed greatly over the last 35 years. I first played in 1986. Back then, characters were as disposable as kleenex. The rules of the game regarding character death were unforgiving. Fast forward to 5E and the default...

Do players want challenging games, with a real chance of death?

This is very true. In Numenera I would be unbothered if my character died as I could whip up another one in 10 minutes. Creating a caster PC in GURPS was a 5+ hour ordeal. If the PC died I would have screamed and quit.

Which RPGs did you play in 2023?

D&D 5th Edition TORG Eternity Shadowrun (I still don't understand the rules) Numenera Basic Role Playing (space opera super heroes)

D&D General Drawbacks of a World with BG3 in it

Our table is already getting confused between the 5E tabletop rules and Baldur's Gate 3 rules. For instance, our cleric player cast spirit guardians, sprinted through as many enemies as possible and immediately rolled for damage. Our DM who has 23 years of experience immediately recorded the...

How hard is learning a new TTRPG system?

Shadowrun comes from the 1990s, a time when TTRPG rules tended to be much more complex. While some systems like TORG Eternity have streamlined and simplified for the modern TTRPG era, Shadowrun's rules remain a complex garbage dumpster fire. But I really like the Shadowrun setting. It is a...
