DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

I don't consider myself as a DM at all. The only reason why I DM is that my players asked me to do it and no one else can run D&D 3.5. That is all. I don't like being a DM because there is too much pressure to it and things never work out like I'd like. I feel that I don't get the kind of...

Neat GM advice on Female Gamers:

I fully agree with Oryan77. You work, study, have fun, roleplay as a mixed group. There is no magic about that, we are all just people. Only note is that I've noticed that girls don't get that into wargamer-stuff and technical details. In general I'd avoid these two in a group where there are...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

Many of the posters seem to have all the sympathy for this player - which is understandable - but I want to point out that concentrating on the story, NPC's, other players and giving COMPLETE attention to every move this players makes, frankly makes me feel stressed. I feel that I do lot of...

XP - How do you do it?

I give XP strictly by the book. But some situations are left vague in DMG so here are my views: - Character has to be somehow involved in the challenge. Some effort like standing in reserve behind the corner as agreed with whole group counts as "involvement" and earns full XP (everyone is hiding...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

Good guess but I'm afraid it's wrong. I let sort of anarchy to reign among my players. They can advice each other all they want. Usually only thing that makes me use my authority is talking while fighting. I don't like it when the supposed-to-be-fast combat degenerates quickly into a "let us all...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

I'm going to be honest with you Ironwolf and tell you that I consider giving options the absolute abomination of roleplaying and it reminds me of computer games. The way I was "brought" up to roleplaying, the #1 rule is that the entire game is lost if you are giving options like 1, 2 and 3. If...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

Just to clarify a bit: I do explain him everytime that casting spell does provoke "free hit" because he lets his guard down. I just don't explain it any further than that, I expect him to try to find a solution for this. What if I move away from the attacker? What if I carefully retreat? Can I...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

I understand your view, but I feel that is too much baby-sitting which makes the game slower and players get lazy... I know a DM that does things like this. I know that I can do all kind of stupid and random things with an intelligent character because my DM always tells me what is a bad idea...

DM's: How much do you help out your players in offgame?

So how much do you advice your players and give them hints off-game? Meaning that you're not talking through any NPC, just giving straight advice as a DM or hint to the player, thus influencing what is going on in-game. I must say that I strongly and vehemently oppose this kind of behaviour. I...

    Graft questions

I find it a bit curious how expensive grafts are. I don't remember the details right now, but for instance skeletal hand doing 1d4 normal damage costed quite a sum. Sometimes I think about putting grafts on NPC's, but it's hard to imagine why did they use thousands of gold pieces for some...

    Stealing mounts?

So what happens if you try to steal a mount? Obviously with horses it's easy, because there have been lot of horse-thieves in the history so it seems that if you have any notion how to ride a horse, you can always jump on ones back and ride away like you owned it for years. But what about...

    FIFA Soccer 11

What really pisses me off is that the Become a Goalkeeper is NOT available for PC! What is dis BS? I've played PES for years, but now I'm planning to move back to FIFA. Why? Well I played PES 2009 and you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1C35EEvy9U why I don't want to go down that...

D&D 3E/3.5 (3.5) Problem player and campaign issues

To me it sounds that things have gotten a bit out of hand. You seem stressed even though it seems that you are still motivated and the players don't really want to make things easy for you. I feel that you are an honest DM with players that are more concerned over their own hype then having fun...

    D&D 1E Assassins from AD&D 1E to Pathfinder

In different editions of (A)D&D almost all the classes have stayed pretty much the same, but assassin has been thrown around from corner to corner. Let's take a look at the history of assassins: OD&D - I vaguely remember that some splat book had assassins, but I'm not sure... AD&D 1E - Character...

    Detect Evil/Good... Metagaming?

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I felt its better to continue this one then to make a new one ok? When you really read the spell description of Detect Evil, you will notice that there is no reference to alignment. You notice "evil auras", but what is that? And now let's look at the basic...

    Dark Sun - Wasteland

Wow, I really liked! I'd like it to look less digitized though, and bit more real... but it's beautiful. I give it 7/10 (which is a lot!)

Pathfinder 1E Sell me on Pathfinder!

Yes I read that thread also. TBH copying something historical as Greyhawk simply doesn't work as a "renovation". It only enhances the plastic feeling to it. So yes, "not unique enough" for me. I'm not putting down Golaron, simply stating that it doesn't inspire me - personally - at all. If...

Pathfinder 1E Sell me on Pathfinder!

I've read Pathfinder SRD and I must say that I find it greatly improved 3.5, while still retaining the original feel and simplicity of D&D. Also the artwork is a real treat to my eyes and there are lot of good ideas, I didn't find anything bad about it. That being said, I doubt I will ever DM...

    Selling loot?

It does matter to the suspension of disbelief. If the world seems like a paperdoll, then it reminds the players that this just like a video game where the world only lives when they are around. It would bother me as a player.
