D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

I would say writing any culture as a stereotype is punching down. Especially when the stereotypes are based on misconceptions. It's deeply hypocritical to only cry about one representation, but be okay with other bad representations.

D&D Movie/TV Where is all of the Honor Among Thieves D&D stuff, WotC?

Wouldn't it be better to put it not just in FLGS but also like Walmarts or something as well?

Beholders, Mind Flayers, and Strahd von Zarovich Released Into Creative Commons (Kinda)

I kind of hope authors don't get too...lazy and just always use the same WotC names/lore with all this stuff now out in the open. I like there to be some variety reflecting different settings. Because not every setting is going to be the Forgotten Realms.

Beholders, Mind Flayers, and Strahd von Zarovich Released Into Creative Commons (Kinda)

So essentially what this allows is for you to use say various core D&D gods, for example, in any D&D (and maybe Pathfinder(?)) setting you make, with no fear of legal action? Like their names and everything?

D&D General WotC Reveals New Information and Covers for 'Keys from the Golden Vault'

No they're each using their own rope. Look closely at the beam the ropes are tied to.

D&D Movie/TV Where is all of the Honor Among Thieves D&D stuff, WotC?

So they seem to be selling toys pretty well. Is D&D really so undermonetized they need to like block everyone out with the OGL shenanigans?

D&D Movie/TV Where is all of the Honor Among Thieves D&D stuff, WotC?

Honestly hasn't Hasbro or WotC been really weird about not making more D&D merch, except to send it to influencers for free? I've come to suspect some of their claims of "undermonetization" come from the fact they never really made D&D toys for example. Hell imagine say an owlbear plushie, for...

D&D General WotC Reveals New Information and Covers for 'Keys from the Golden Vault'

Hasn't this kind of been a problem for a lot of WotC 5e art? Characters don't look like they're really interested in the task they're doing, or the viewpoints of the characters are really off, or spectators just look bored even when exciting magic is being thrown about, and so on? I have to...

So WHY Didn't The OGL Contain The Word 'Irrevocable'?

Considering it's a court case about a business contract essentially, that's not as silly as it might sound.

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Also, I get the feeling while Hasbro & WotC are looking at this from a "brand perspective", they don't seem to realize most 3PPs probably aren't making enough money to think of branching out to using their settings for stuff like video games or TV shows. As much as I would love the idea of say...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Honestly Forgotten Realms is useful because like the old Star Wars Legends EU, the setting is so vast that the stories you could use in it are so varied, in some ways, that you could easily set up stuff like fantasy equivalents to The Mandalorian, or something like The Witcher or whatever, in it...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Also, frankly, if you already have the core books, you don't need to support WotC because so many 3PPs have much more detailed 5e campaign settings (if you aren't just doing homebrew). The funny thing is, WotC likes to think D&D is a brand, but I recall many people noticing how the core 5e...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Is there a reason why WotC never really sold actual D&D merch to people? That could've been a great source of money I suspect honestly. They seem to give it away free to influencers instead.

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Unfortunately, I suspect for most people when they think of D&D, the stuff they associate with D&D is probably most recognizably Forgotten Realms in origin. Like look at anything involving drow in fan creations, stories, smut, etc for example. More often than not, you can see it's the Forgotten...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

I understand Hasbro is probably leaning on WotC thanks to the fact D&D grew during the pandemic, while all of Hasbro's other businesses lost money due to everyone being sick, but this whole thing about trying to deauthorize the 1.0a OGL license is still crazy. And the fact they legitimately...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

They were dumb enough to have this really terrible license created. Who knows what their thinking really is.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I wonder how this will affect the D&D movie. I really hope it succeeds but Jesus, what Hasbro & WotC are doing could very well destroy it now.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Do you guys think Hasbro/WotC might attempt to paint fan resistance to this as "toxic" or "racist" or whatever? I've heard it called "fan baiting." Where essentially a company tries to paint opposition as nasty or whatever to cover up their own failings in writing, plot, etc.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Were Hasbro & WotC always like this? I recall it was WotC that saved D&D from TSR's implosion and poor management. And frankly, weren't they making lots of money with the licensing they already had for 5e?
