    d20 Menace Manual

The d20 Menace Manual is a good, solid product. To my mind, there are two major factors that keep it from being a great. I feel like it is a little thin for its cost (size to cost is a silly way to judge an RPG product but...), and some of the information is too campaign specific and so may...

Why aren't D&D dogs more like real dogs?

um you rolled crummy? Or the GM did... Dogs get scent track and spot... okay the spot is only +5 if I remember correctly.... Actually a 3-4th level character might have a better spot/listen than a normal dog. So I think your experience is about right. -E Keep in mind, it is a fantasy game...

    Menace Manual -- no reviews?!

Nope. Notice I didn't provide a link to buy the product either... Nor an amazon link that benefits me. Just a review. You'll notice I was registered for a month and posting- before I posted this review too. -E :)

    Menace Manual -- no reviews?!

Can't seem to post my review... The reviews section still thinks it is not out... Oh well. If it does get updated so it can be reviewed, I'll post. -E

    CRs and Large Parties

CR: toughness of a monster EL: encounter level, difficulty of an encounter. (basically a combination of monsters and extenuating circumstances like ambush and the like). This is my experience: 5 players (say avg 4th level party): can take a single CR 5 monster or other EL 5 situations if...

Modern Backdrops available and it's cool.

Pot to kettle, you are black.... :) No actually I didn't call him a newbie, I just thought it was funny. One post recommending something often means...Profit. Usually I lurk www.slashdot.org where you have to be a little suspicious. On many boards posts recommending you go buy something...

Modern Backdrops available and it's cool.

In the interest of full disclosure: did you sign up with the goal of promoting that product? Since that seems to be your one and only post? Are you going to gain anything for each purchase of that product via that link or otherwise? Don't be offended, I'm just curious. -E

    Menace Manual -- no reviews?!

Here is my mini-review: I felt like I got a great deal on the d20 Modern roleplaying game book, the d20 Menace Manual is cool, but seems like less of a deal. I'm using the Creature section in my D&D campaign and a few in d20 M. The GM characters section saves me some time. The factions...

Best RPG books any system, any publisher

Original AD&D Players Handbook, DMG, Monster Manual- Nostalgia, plus it was groundbreaking at the time. This is what got me into RPG's and other games. Mutants and Masterminds- best superhero game if you ask me, I think the book is pretty, the rules are great. Dark Matter- Alternity rules...

    Your best "one shot" experience.

Forgot, I'd love to d20 modern a one shot, but I haven't had the chance :( as a player or a GM -E

    Adventures (online) with pre-gen characters?

I've seen one recently that I wanted to play, but it is for Arcana Unearthed. It looks like a cool introduction to AU. It is available at http://www.montecook.com It has pre-packaged characters and isn't too long and involved. Sorry, I don't know of any 3/3.5E modules like that, but...

    Your best "one shot" experience.

As a player: probably a D6 type game (super rules light), that a friend ran. It was loosely cyberpunk (set in just in the future- kind of like some of William Gibson's books). No magic, but some tech we don't have yet. It was great. Two great characters (we only had two players and a GM...

    Thirty Minutes & a reply

I suggest not insulting your target audience. Ponder the wisdom of some trite truisms like "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" or "don't bite the hand that feeds you". I also suggest posting it in the story hour forum. Before you do, read some of the other story hours...

    Should have sample NPC's

Everyone else by ENworld press (available at RPGnow and SVGames) is a PDF product with NPCs. That said, I only give it a partial recommendation: it covers mainly non-essential types. People for characters to interact with verbally or skill check wise. Not confrontational NPCs and the like...

    Magic Items that grant feats

I think magic items that replicate feats are okay. Except... except feats that are class specific. and feats that can only be taken at first level (or feats from racial levels if you use Aracana Unearthed type racial levels). I think those type feats are special because the make being the...

    My bard was combat-effective!

Congratulations!! I think bards are great as a support character (even D&D 3rd ed), because they can do a little of everything. I find them very effective- just not in the same way that a straight fighter is effective. It sounds like you had a good time as well! Can't beat that. Are you...

    Mages, HP, and survival

I vote for die quick. If your campaign has any kind of PC lethality . Anything more deadly than Absolute on this scale: http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/rpg/theory/models/interaction_model.html You can be killed by average results from direct damage spells from a 7th or 8th level caster...

d20 GAMMA WORLD: excerpts, links, Pure Strain Excitement

I have a certain nostalgia for Gamma World, but it is hard for me to get players to play it. I used to have the old box set (mid 1980's), but now I only have the Alternatity conversion (so-so) and the Dungeon Magazine conversion. I really like the Dungeon Magazine mini-game one. It is kinda...

    Improvisation tips?

Improvising- I like having a list of names for on the fly naming, sometimes a thing list (just cool words or nouns). I also like a list of traits or things that fit or describe the setting. Short lists, maybe 20 items tops. All on the same page. These are prepared before hand, but help feed...
