    Black Arrow Madness

Ah ok! I understand the argument now. :) See, but I'd respond with this: Emphasis placed by me. It might be Cover that doesn't count in all instances, but it does still seem to be Cover. :) Edit: More specifically, I'd say that Area/Close attacks ability that specifies that they don't...

    Black Arrow Madness

Buh? The attacker (Rogue) is gaining Cover vs the target (Enemy) by moving behind an ally (Paladin). That seems to fit the wording of the feat I quoted above doesn't it? I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

    Black Arrow Madness

Are we sure that's still the case for the feat in question? The pertinent text says An ally normally isn't enough Cover for Stealth checks, but isn't this a case of specific trumping general?

A suggestion for WotC re: DDi

Asmor, beautiful work! I was honestly about to post a suggestion to enable a Dungeon search-by-level feature when I realized I could do that on your site. Bravo, cudos, and many other thanks! Another possibility for dynamic PDF generation (which I'll admit is likely a bit beyond WotC's...

Your Mileage May Vary Cue the star. :D

How do you handle being blinded?

Eh, I'm fine reading some sign of its presence as "shimmery wavy translucent shape in its square", just like I'm fine treating Blind as "vague fuzzy outlines of what might be a person" (kinda like how I see in the morning before finding my glasses :p). As with all things flufftastical though...

How do you handle being blinded?

Huh, I'll be. Hadn't noticed that, but can't seem to find any mention of it now in the Compendium. Thanks for the heads up! Flip, I did find this in the Compendium just a sec ago: That seems to hold up the whole "Predator shimmery affect" fluffing pretty solidly ... Edit: For the record, the...

How do you handle being blinded?

Well, I think complete and utter dark/blindness/all invisible opponents sum to essentially the same thing. The blind guy doesn't care if he is fighting invisible foes in the dark; they're just as hard to "see" to him. I'd say that was a fairly good example of fitting the flavor to the mechanics...

How do you handle being blinded?

Well, the Move action spent to Stealth can be combined with other actions; the enemy could Shift, Run, or Walk somewhere and Stealth perfectly fine. They'll only need to spend a Move action solely to Stealth if they don't have anything else to use one with. Whereas the Blind guy could certainly...

How do you handle being blinded?

I guess the idea is that you can generally guess well enough where a person is, unless they are trying to conceal their presence from you. They could be talking to allies, shouting battle cries, taunting their opponents, or just be generally noisy (armor, shield, sword, spells, etc ...) I think...

How do you handle being blinded?

As a move action an enemy can make a Stealth check vs a Blinded foe; if they beat his Passive Perception they can't be seen. Remember he gets a -10 to this check ... it should be easy to beat, even for untrained Stealthers.

How do you handle being blinded?

Maybe I missed something here but this doesn't make sense to me. :erm: Are you trying to apply the idea of Take 20 here?

    All About Skill Challenges

So far I've run three skill challenges for my group, and I can't really claim any were successes. The first two I attempted to do "seamlessly", that is, I didn't tell the party they were in a skill challenge, just tried to coax them into offering solutions. Unfortunately, this didn't seem to...

Mechanics of Death aka How have you died?

A combination of all three, I would guess. I can think of a few instances where the story more or less dictated that we press on, despite being pretty banged up. Generally those times didn't end well. Other points either the fight was harder than we anticipated, or we were more hurt than we...

Mechanics of Death aka How have you died?

This, pretty much. Note that Chillborn Zombies specifically have a stacking aura, making them incredibly nasty if you have just a few together. I'll get to a few comments in a second but I just remember another really good single death. Low level Invoker - huge giant combat, dozens of enemies...

Mechanics of Death aka How have you died?

I guess I'm one of those other side guys, for whom death seems to lie in every corner, and who the reaper stalks like an overprotective mother-in-law. In my Wednesday night game I've probably died 9 or 10 times personally, tying with one other player, with everyone else ranging from 3 to 6 or...

    Projectors

So with the addition of a new player to our weekly DnD group several months ago, my group gained a projector. Hanging it form the ceiling, we attached it to a laptop and projected a digital map onto our table that we used to play. Unfortunately, our player (and his projector) are moving away...

    4E, as an anti-4E guy ...

You better believe I resent their tyrannical respiratory demands too! :P Same here. Always minis, all editions. I seem to remember my 2E books having diagrams and such of minis, amid the art. Am I crazy? (Okay, probably. But did such diagrams exist?) Edit: OT: Good post, I hope you keep...

    Starting Wealth vs Organic Wealth

evilbob, you glorious evil dark knight, that is precisely the thread I was thinking of. And I see you even included some calculations re: how larger/smaller parties fared. Awesome! Thanks a ton for the link!

    Starting Wealth vs Organic Wealth

You know, you guys are evil. Having answered my question, you've planted another in my head. How does the expected wealth by level alter with the addition/reduction of characters from the expected 5-party model? Is it a flat rate (ie, +/- X/character) or a sliding scale? In relation to the...
