OSR OSRIC - how much wealth and magic items should 3rd level characters begin with?

THAC0 is almost literally the same as Attack Bonus, only you subtract the AC from it. Like a character with a 15 THAC0 is attacking a target with an AC of 5, he would need a 10 to hit. I realize it can sometimes involve negative numbers, but is subtraction really that hard?

    African themed alternate divine magic

You might be better off asking on an OSR orientated/friendly site like Dragonsfoot.org

    D&D 5E Poll: What is a Level 1 PC?

That's not really true though. One of the things about 3.x that always really bugged me was how it coupled combat ability (which is represented by level) with someone's skill at a non-combat task. Or instance, say you had the greatest blacksmith in the world or the greatest starship designer in...

KS for new game by makers of Quest for Glory

It's not going to be all that Quest For Glory-ish (for various reasons), but still something of an adventure game/RPG hybrid called "Hero U" More than anything, seems to be like the recent Persona games, you spend some time in school, then go dungeon crawling Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption by...

Will the Hobbit bring in new gamers?

I think the real problem is that there is no longer a simple, gateway RPG that is popular. Basic D&D used to fill this niche, but that hasn't been around for ages (nor was as simple as it could have been). I'd really like to see something as stripped down as the Basic Fantasy RPG, only even...

Neverwinter vs. Dungeons & Dragons Online

I've found there to be a certainly similarity in Cryptic's MMORPGs. While Neverwinter could very well be a good game, I expect it to be more of the same from them (not that it's a bad thing, I really liked CoH and have played a lot of STO. Champions is pretty terrible, though).

What current systems have the most published adventures?

I would have to think that the RPG with the most published adventures besides D&D would be Call of Cthulhu.

Dinosaurs can't be cloned - Dammit

I think this is a case of Clarke's first law

Heroes of Might and Magic series...

I think they are pretty fun, I own HoMM 1-IV, though I haven't played any in a long while. They're scenario based 4x games , you move your hero around and grab stuff, build up your towns, conquer enemies, then when you win a scenario, you start over.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

I've always thought the Cat from Red Dwarf would make a great doctor. He'd be like another Jon Pertwee.

Anyone check out Radiance RPG yet?

It's a very impressive product, but not quite my cup of tea. But I couldn't help noticing you kinda screwed up the OGL, section 15. In the player's guide, you have You're supposed to list every product used (or as I read it, the Section 15 of every product used), then add an entry for your...

    More WotC reprints.

I have to wonder what the adventure compilations will be like - are they just hardcover versions of the old compilations? Or brand new ones. The old compilations aren't so hot - they took out a lot of the artwork. Also would have preferred T1-4 - The Temple of Elemental Evil. It's relatively...

Blood & Treasure Review (Retro-Clone/Game by John M. Stater 2012)

Introduction I pretty much burned out on D&D right in the middle of the transition from 3.0 to 3.5. I liked many of the ideas of the "third edition" of the game, but found it more and more cumbersome in practice the more I played, especially past tenth level. So eventually I just got fed up and...

Bruce Heard + Mystara + Kickstarter [Hypothetical + Cross Post]

I pretty much own every Mystara product, so I'm a huge fan. But I think the worst thing they could do it is try to support it with 5e. Switching it from BECMI to D&D pretty much broke the setting, 5e would only be worse.

Seems pretty much like 1e/2e Shadowrun in terms of how mechanics work

Big changes a'coming! Merging the D&D forums

I think the exact opposite. That's exactly why I like Dragonsfoot I think the net result of this is that discussions about anything but 5e will simply be driven out. It seems to me that ENworld has sort of lost its identity. It used to be the 3.x site. Then when 4e came out, only a fraction...

    Tuatha De Danann PCs?

I would disagree - it's not unlike the Iliad and Greek mythology, that turned (probable) real life heroes and leaders into demigods. Ireland was invaded by different waves of Celtic speaking, the last ones were from south of France/North of Spain, just like the Milesians in the book.

    Kickstarter: Dungeon Crawler Prepainted Minis

Yeah, but dungeons were a big focus. Despite the name Dungeon Crawler, none of their minis seem to be Dungeon related. You have townsfolk, some tentacles, and now pirates.

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 and d20 reviews

Yeah, I noticed that too. I had like a 100 reviews of d20 products here that I did. There used to be a product database and you could add reviews to it. Now it seems reviews just get stuck in the forums.

Are you part of the "Lost Generation" of RPG gamers?

I think 2e did a lot of good things, but often at the expense of "flavor", which seemed to be reserved for settings.
