    [Mongoose] Encyclopaedias

Does anyone happen to know (roughly) the original release order for the books in Mongoose's Encyclopaedia Arcane/Encyclopaedia Divine series? I actually have yet to buy one, but based on a number of good reviews, I'm probably going to start picking them up...and once I do, the completist in me...

What WotC D&D books do you own?

Favorites are probably Races of Faerun and Magic of Faerun. I'm also finding a lot of good ideas for a "northern" campaign in Silver Marches. (If it matters, please note that I have NEVER run an actual Forgotten Realms campaign, so I love these books based on the number of good ideas I can...

Which of Mongoose's Power Classes are you using?

Point taken. I must say, though, that I find the Explorer in particular to be one class that fills a niche I don't think the PHB covered much at all. Kudos for that! As for the Hedge Wizard, I perhaps should have included that one in my list of potential "usables," as the "small-town wizard"...

Which of Mongoose's Power Classes are you using?

I'm going to use the Noble and the Explorer as core classes in my next campaign, and I'm curious to see what the Fool will be all about. Gladiator, Knight, and (probably) Pirate strike me as classes that almost need your setting to be tailored to them, and I just don't see such "types"...

    A quick glimpse at PREVIEWS...

I doubt I'd ever use the Pirate, but I could see it getting a lot of use in certain campaigns. A little like the Gladiator in that respect. In my campaign: Gladiator = Fighter with specialized combat/weapon training Pirate = Fighter or rogue with "sea training" However, were a campaign to be...

Are you using any of Mongoose Publishing's Power Classes?

Said it in another thread, so I'll keep it somewhat brief here: I really liked the first series, and I plan to use the Noble and (in some form) the Assassin in my next campaign. The other two books had some interesting ideas, but I probably won't have much use for those classes in my setting...

    (Mongoose) Power Classes 2

Very cool. I've been waiting on these since I saw them listed in Game Trade a couple of months ago. I really liked the previous four books in the series. The Noble will definitely be spending some time as a core class in my next campaign, and the Assassin (in some form) probably will too...

    Penumbra Bestiary Preview Monster

Expensive or not, I'll definitely take a look if my local game store has it. I'm a sucker for a new monster book (or a new book of spells, or a new campaign setting, or...) Availability might be the only potential problem; if the local stores DON'T have it, I'm not sure I'll shell out that...

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

Ultimately, I think this is going to be the (unsolvable) crux of the evening's discussion. Everyone who's been posting tonight is in the group (old-school gamers) that KoDT and Hackmaster draw much of their humor from, but none of us are going to agree on where the line should be drawn. There...

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

I respect your opinion on this, even though I don't happen to agree. If you're right, though, it seems like an awfully strange way for Kenzer to put out a successful game line. I LOVE first-edition AD&D and the old D&D games, as do you and many of the people here. Many of the people who love...

    Book of Hallowed Might?

I've seen a couple of catlog references to the print version of BoHM shipping in March, with a $10.95 price tag. I tend to prefer the print editions too, which is why I'm looking toward the print version of Book of Eldritch Might III, scheduled for January!

Sell me a campaign setting! Now!

Nightfall, Not a problem on the release dates. I work in book publishing (medical texts), so I know how much release schedules can shift. (You don't want it to happen, but it sure does anyway!) I'm signing off. Enjoy the rest of your evening...ummm, morning...

Sell me a campaign setting! Now!

I've seen ads in two recent places: Issue #34 (December 2002) of Game Trade Magazine, inside front cover. This is not the most recent issue, but the one before it. A new catalog from White Wolf, issue #1 (dated January to March, 2003). It's a "split" catalog. Half is called White Wolf...

Sell me a campaign setting! Now!

Thanks, Nightfall. Because all the ads I saw only showed the four books you mentioned (with those really COOL character pictures...hope those are the covers), I just assumed those books were all there were. It didn't dawn on me that the ads might be limited to only the books in the series...

Sell me a campaign setting! Now!

Nightfall, I've been meaning to ask you about this... Because I have only passing familiarity with the Scarred Lands (I have several of the books but haven't fully digested them yet), I'm wondering why there appears to be no discussion of paladins or monks in these player guides. Frankly, I...

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

Good point about the eight Hacklopedias. Who needs that many monster books for one game? I'll stick with the good old Monster Manual. And the Liber Bestarius. And the Monsternomicon. And the two Creature Collections. And the Tome of Horrors. And... Ummm, what was my point again? ;)...

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

We seem to have a St. Louis thing going on this thread...four posters thus far, and three St. Louisans! I've never felt like KODT was making fun of gamers or D&D (or Paranoia, or Call of Cthulhu, or whatever game the characters were playing). I'm pretty sure the writers LOVE and play...

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

I believe the initial discussion of Hackmaster popped up on the "Greyhawk Setting Resurrected?" thread.

    Is Hackmaster a joke?

It seems to me that some of the "joke" stigma attached to Hackmaster may simply be a byproduct of the game's inspiration: Knights of the Dinner Table (which I know you're well aware of). KODT draws so many jokes from Hackmaster and its intrepid players that those who've read the comic and...

    Nercomancers get ALL the love

LGodamus is correct that "Necromantic Lore" is a monster book. On the other hand, according to Game Trade Magazine, Fantasy Flight ARE releasing two books for wizards early this year: "The School of Illusion" (listed for January) and "School of Evocation" (listed for March). Sounds like the...
