    Disappointed in 4e

What wilderness flavor behind a ranger? The only flavour a ranger has by the book is they have 1 skill from Nature and The underground knowledge one. If the underground knowledge one doesn't move you far enough from a wilderness focus then ask the GM to let you swap it out for something else...

turning back the clock on paladins

So you think it's reasonable to judge 4th ed on how you feel about a 2nd level character? Also please point to the copious amount of support for logistics, NPCs and economics in 3rd ed (you can stat up NPCs by putting them through advancement is not really an advantage considering the work it...

turning back the clock on paladins

o.k. It sounds like you're judging the character on 1st and 2nd level out of 30 and that's really somewhat impatient. Personally I suspect that you'll start to notice the character growing in another level or two. I'm not sure that there's really that much more behind the world in 3.x than...

turning back the clock on paladins

Talk to your GM to see if he'll let you change it to human with elven blood. Mechanically identical to human but might look slightly different.

Whats the point of a ranged basic attack?

Any ranged power provokes. So you generally won't use it if you're in a threatened area (unless you think the damage you do is more important than the damage you take)

    Dwarven Weapon Training feat question

Although I'll note that the Dwarven abilities can make for a pretty darned effective defender with the resistance to forced movement and the ability to second wind as a minor.

D&D 4E Forked Thread: Some Thoughts on 4e

    a) what were the options that an equivalent 3rd ed character had? What did an archer or melee character do in 3rd ed that the 4th ed Ranger can't b) Split the Tree & the encounter power that lets you shift wisdom squares before or after the shot get a fair bit of use from me as well. c)...

Can you choose to reduce the area of an AE power?

The other thing that makes me say no is that Enlarged Dragonbreath (the Dragonborn racial feat that increases the area of your breath) explicitely says that you can use either the blast 3 or blast 5, if you could normally reduce the size they wouldn't have to specify you being able to use the...

I think my character is broken. :-(

I suspect that he means he beat a level 9 NPC in a couple of rounds without other people contributing rather than beat a level 9 solo monster in a couple of rounds.

Begging to be errata'd: Archer Ranger At-Wills

Except that if you're in a battle where you only hit on a 20 you should justll just run away because you're outclassed enough hitting it 3 times in 20 rounds won't matter a damn.

Begging to be errata'd: Archer Ranger At-Wills

It depends on which edition of D&D you're looking at. In 4th ed if you're attacking using a power it says whether dex is included in damage or not. In 3.0 or 3.5 dex wasn't included in the damage but strength was in some cases - thrown weapons, 3.5 slings iirc and heavy draw bows (up to a...

    Righteous Brand + Righteous Brand = ?

It depends on the order. If the order is Jozan Tordek Goblin then it would matter if the first righteous brand was on an OA on the goblin's turn. It would expire before Tordek got to attack.

    KotS adjustment *spoiler*

I wouldn't give a full additional amount for the 6th character seeing as he's 2 levels below the rest of the party. He's not going to be punching at the same weight as the rest of the party so if you add additional monsters assuming that he is I think you'll really hurt their chances on a tough...

    Minions and hps

Yeah, but while the Paladin might get to use an at will with Polearm Gamble and Heavy Blade Opportunist the Rogue won't on opportunity attacks. Also the Paladin doesn't get a lot of benefit of it if he's wiping the minions out before they get to him.

    Minions and hps

If that's what you want from the encounter then the mooks aren't all minions. Or because people are using the wrong mechanics for what they want. Then don't create that encounter with all minions. Create it with a mix of minions and some level approriate (or near level appropriate) foes.
